It all began in 2015 in the most unlikely of places, a music festival. We were both at The Oregon jamboree not for each other but for the music and shenanigans that go with it. We didn’t even know that each other existed, until that weekend. After all the fun of the day and the night winding to a close we headed back to the Haggle’s in Kim’s little white Mazda which she drove like she was the next great Formula 1 driver. After awhile everyone went their separate ways and that was that, or so we thought.
Fast forward a month later, we decided to “hang” out. At the time we were both in hazy parts of our lives and enjoying the time. When things started getting a little more serious, we would spend hours on the phone like we were back in high school. Talking about all sorts of things. Jason was finally able to meet Jada, Kim kept her hidden away because she wasn’t sure where this relationship was going and didn’t want to complicate things. Once that hurdle was overcome, we were inseparable.
Jason got a dog, a German Shepherd named Sable. Wherever Jason went Sable did too and soon it wasn’t just Jason’s dog but our family dog. Kim and Jada moved in with Jason in 2016 and thus began the start of us building a life together.
Kim was still working at the place she had worked when we first met, and Jason got a job working with his friend Nate at the “shop”. Jason was presented with the opportunity for new employment and accepted. The schedule was a little strange and took some time getting used to. Jada started doing sports and now we were juggling time around. 2018 is when we decided to start looking for a home of our own. We found our home and then the Great Snowpocalypse of 2019 happened, we lost power where we were at and couldn’t move into our new home. A few days later with snow still on the ground we were finally able to move in. Kim started a new job that year and Jada switched schools, again. Jason was offered an apprenticeship at his job, and he accepted. A few weeks later Jason’s dad passed away on Christmas day.
Covid. Covid was a strange time for us and everyone. Kim was able to work from home and started the medical assisting program at Lane in Oct of 2020. Jada was enrolled in an online school and Jason started college again remotely. Nothing will test a relationship more that replacing a sewer line in your home during a pandemic. After removing 13 yards of concrete, replacing pipe and moving rock we able to get the job done. In May 2020, one of Jasons friends Nate decided to take his own life. With the ongoing pandemic we were able to navigate many of the challenges presented to us continue to grow as a couple.
With the pandemic starting to fade and things slowly going back to normal we lost another friend. In May of 2021, our dog Sable got cancer and we had to put her down. The dog that had sort of been the glue for our budding family was suddenly gone and left a hole in all of us. Kim decided after some time we needed a new dog; she got our new buddle of hyperactivity, Drack. After trying for some time, we also found out we were going to be having a baby boy. Jason decided to propose to Kim on 10/3/2021 and she accepted, regardless of the fact she was wearing the Goodwill themed clothes she had to wear. Later that year in September Kim’s dad passed away. Kim was able to complete her medical assistant program and she became the Operations Manager at her current job.
March 2022 was when we became parents again to a 10.78lbs baby. After two weeks in the NICU we were able to bring him home. We were both able to take some time off and enjoy being a family of four. With Jason still in school, taking care of a baby and Jada in sports time was in short supply but we were able to pull through.
2023 was a year of accomplishment for the both of us. Kim decided she wanted to earn her associates, so she started school again. Jason was able to complete his apprenticeship and become a Journeyman Limited Maintenace Electrician and earn another associate. Jada decided to add Dunlap to her last name and surprised Jason on his 35th birthday. We went on an Alaskan cruise and started planning a wedding. Well, Kim did.
Now after 8 years together and a whole bunch of other stuff in between we can’t wait to celebrate with all of you on our wedding day 9/28/2024 when Kim can finally not be the only one with a different last name.
