Jason and Matt met via the dating apps and traded some non-committal casual messages back and forth for a year or so. They finally decided to meet in real life on March 21st, 2015 at the San Francisco wine bar, Hotel Biron, and have been together ever since.

The proposal took place on January 12, 2022 onstage at the San Francisco Playhouse during a performance of Twelfth Night the Musical, a Shakespearean romantic comedy that involved secret love letters. Just as the bows finished, Jason, who was playing trumpet for the production, stopped the applause to reveal that he found another love letter.

The letter read:

My Dearest Beloved,

Six wonderful years have past since the day thou hast changed my life

MKH doth sway my life

How lucky I am to be so generously loved by you.

If thou entertainest my love,

Please come to me now, in Illyria, to answer me this:

Matthew Kevin Hannon, will you marry me?
