IF YOU PLAN TO FLY: Make sure you have a Real ID (or passport) before booking your tickets!
We highly suggest driving! In Starkville, there isn’t public transportation and things are too spread out to walk.
If you do choose to fly the closest airport is in Columbus,MS, which is about 10 minutes away from Starkville. GTR (the Columbus airport) only accepts flights with Delta,so keep that in mind. There is a place in the airport where you can rent a car, but honestly I do not know how reliable they are with availability.
The next closest airport is in Memphis,TN. This airport is 2 hours away from Starkville. We highly suggest you do not use this airport because from our experience they are not reliable at all. (The first time Nate came down he originally was supposed to fly into Memphis and we were going to pick him up. Well,on the way there I get a text that says his flight is canceled. Of course, his first time flying is messed up. So we keep driving just in case he can’t get his flight changed to Columbus. We find out he is going to fly into Columbus as we are sitting in a walmart parking lot in Memphis. Soo we turn around and rush to Columbus. Nate beat us there, but it was all worth it in the end. We now know not to ever do that again and spend the extra money to fly into Columbus.)
Overall! We suggest driving down! We know this is a lot to ask but as someone who has lived here for my entire life, I think this is the best way for you to feel comfortable and not have a stressful experience!
Another option is an Airbnb! There are plenty around or outside of Starkville that are wonderful!
