Our Wedding

July. Summer vacation. Two things that go together almost as well as mustard and ketchup. You might be thinking: what on earth does that mean to this story? Well, maybe it doesn’t really matter. As I sat in our hotel room in Wildwood, (a “beach” in New Jersey for those that may have never been) I scrolled endlessly on my phone waiting for any sort of notification. At this point I was the only one waiting around in the hotel room anyways. My parents and younger siblings were going to the rides on the boardwalk as my two closest brothers were out doing God knows what. Whatever it was I wasn’t interested. I flirted with the idea of maybe texting a friend from high school to see if they happened to be down at the same time as my family, but, like anyone contemplating hanging out with a high school friend years on, I came to my senses and promptly plopped back down into bed. I stared at the ceiling for a while. This is vacation. Then there was a ding. I snatched my phone up and unlocked it just to see whatever the notification could’ve been. It said I had a new match. I opened whatever dating app it may have been and quickly saw that I had matched with a “Jayden”. I should make it very apparent that at the time I didn’t have much luck with dating apps and I goofily believed that maybe being at the shore would be the fix all to my string of poor luck. I sent a message and prayed that I’d get even one conversation before being unmatched with. Luckily enough, I did. As Jayden and I messaged each other more and more I couldn’t help but feel this longing to be with someone that was so far away. Sure, it wasn’t cross continents, but, Hell, even being a room away from her would be too far. I was infatuated. And surely enough, Jayden was too. A few months went by of us Snapchatting and we both knew we wanted anything more than just seeing pictures of one another with text. Finally, I asked Jayden if she’d be my girlfriend. She said no. Well, I guess maybe that isn’t entirely fair. Jayden said she wouldn’t want to be official until we had met in person. I’d beg and beg to know when I could come and see her, but there just wasn’t enough time to do so with our schedules. We kept talking for 2 years when finally, I still don’t know why, Jayden asked if she could just be my girlfriend already. Even winning the lottery wouldn’t come close to how happy I felt. I said yes. I mean, what other answer would there have been? Still, there was the question of when would we meet then. After much thought we settled on Spring Break. We planned and planned and then it happened. Sure, the flight might’ve been less than ideal for the first time visiting someone and maybe the weather wasn’t as expected, but I was with my person: what on Earth wouldn’t I do to have that?

Our recommendations! 

IF YOU PLAN TO FLY: Make sure you have a Real ID (or passport) before booking your tickets!

We highly suggest driving! In Starkville, there isn’t public transportation and things are too spread out to walk.   If you do choose to fly the closest airport is in Columbus,MS, which is about 10 minutes away from Starkville. GTR (the Columbus airport) only accepts flights with Delta,so keep that in mind.There is a place in the airport where you can rent a car, but honestly I do not know how reliable they are with availability.   The next closest airport is in Memphis,TN. This airport is 2 hours away from Starkville. We highly suggest you do not use this airport because from our experience they are not reliable at all. (The first time Nate came down he originally was supposed to fly into Memphis and we were going to pick him up. Well,on the way there I get a text that says his flight is canceled. Of course, his first time flying is messed up. So we keep driving just in case he can’t get his flight changed to Columbus. We find out he is going to fly into Columbus as we are sitting in a walmart parking lot in Memphis. Soo we turn around and rush to Columbus. Nate beat us there,but it was all worth it in the end. We now know not to ever do that again and spend the extra money to fly into Columbus.)  Overall! We suggest driving down! We know this is a lot to ask but as someone who has lived here for my entire life, I think this is the best way for you to feel comfortable and not have a stressful experience!
