Our Story

How We Met

1/20/2017

With the help of online dating, Nate and Jean shared their first coffee at Java Johns while Nate was visiting family in Seattle. It was love at first sight, and they made the most of their short time together, Jean taking Nate sailing and Nate introducing the family.

Long Distance

The First 6 Months

With Nate returning to the final leg of the Family Medicine Residency in Detroit, we took turns traveling to see each other and building a strong foundation over video chat. In July 2017, we packed everything Nate owned and drove back to Seattle.

Life in Seattle

We introduced each other to our favorite activities and fell more in LOVE.

Sailing aboard the Final Rose - Captain Jean and First Mate Nate have logged several hundred nautical miles.

February 21, 2018

Musical Theater - Jean introduced Nate to her favorite musicals, even winning front row seats to Hamilton.

December 02, 2018

Hiking - Taken at one of our favorite hiking trails, the waterfall on the way to Copper Lake.

January 20, 2019

Snowboarding - After a 7-year hiatus, Jean joined Nate shredding the gnar at Stevens Pass.

Crabbing - Summer vacations aboard the Final Rose in the San Juans, dropping pots and catching crab.

Photography - Nate's passion for landscape photography has taken us to beautiful locations all over the Pacific Northwest.

The Proposal

We were fortunate to take a family vacation aboard the SV Final Rose to the San Juans. While anchored at Sucia, one of our favorite islands, Patrick and Emilie suggested a beach bonfire. Nate brought his camera gear, hoping to capture what promised to be a magical sunset. Little did Jean know, but he had something planned to make it even more magical.
