Jeff and I met on New Year's Eve at a mutual friends house. I remember from the moment I met him he made me laugh, and I wanted to keep spending time with him. But alas I couldn't because I was only 17 at the time and he was heading to a dance that didn't allow minors.
Fast forward a few months of seeing each other here and there through our mutual friends, to the night we spent time together, just us. Jeff drove me around for probably like 6 straight hours while we just talked, hung out, laughed, sang, and played truth or dare. It was winter at this time and at one point in the drive I dared Jeff to jump out of the truck in his t shirt and jeans and go roll in the snow. Then, because he couldn't back down from a challenge, he did it! After a few turns back and forth, I was finally brave enough to pick dare. He immediately stopped the truck and dared me to get out. My first thought was alright, here we go, here's my pay back for making him roll in the snow. So I got out and was standing on the road while he fiddled in the truck. I obviously kept asking what are you doing, while panicking at what I was about to be dared to do. Surely he was going to get me back. Little did I know he was fiddling with his phone and turning on a country song, cranking it as loud as the speakers would go, and then walking around to the front of the truck in the head lights where I was waiting. Then he took my hands, gave me little smile and dared me to dance with him. So we danced in the headlights on a random gravel road to the entire song.
The years in between then and before we had kids are what I like to refer to as our 'growing years'. This is the time where, I'm sure if you knew us, you wouldn't have thought we'd make it this far. We were learning how to live together even though we were both extremely stubborn, opinionated, hot-headed, naive, young adults. We eventually did... for the most part. Sometimes we still fight over stupid things like whether or not I was right when I said the 'back way' to my moms was faster or not. (I was right by the way, it was 15kms shorter). Or when I got a puppy and she literally ate our house, or whenever we try to build anything together (Sandbox nearly did us in). All joking aside, we really did do a lot of growing, and we are stronger than ever.
Now we have 3 beautiful kids, and we've built one hell of a life together. To this day, he makes me laugh every single day, and we dance whenever the kids let us have a minute to ourselves. I couldn't picture a better life with anyone else.
