We met in the woods! In 2019, Jeff took his annual guys' backpacking trip with 3 friends, and I, Quinn, took my first-ever backpacking trip with 3 girlfriends. As I was trekking up the trail to Caribou Lake in Mt. Shasta/Trinity Forest, I realized that I should have brought some hiking poles. I grabbed two sticks naming one "Caribou Lou" and the other "Jeff". Us girls set up a day-camp at the remote Caribou Lake the next day without a human in site. Mid-day, we were nearly trampled on by 3 dudes claiming- "uhm, you're sort of sitting on the trail". After spending the day together joking around and drinking the wildest concoction I've ever seen (some black/purple juice they named "daddy's juice" made from rum, Emergen-C vitamin packets, vodka, and gatorade), we invited Jeff and his buddies to our camp that night. Jeff soon realized that I didn't have a chair to sit on. He offered his seat and went belly down in the dirt for the rest of the night so that I could sit in comfort. Later that night after some hilarious games around the fire, Jeff asked me if he could have my phone number and kissed me underneath the *1 billion* stars. After returning home from the long hike, Jeff face-timed me, and we have proceeded to talk 5-10 times/day for the past 6 years. Jeff lived in Humboldt, and I lived in Oakland, and after sheltering-in-each others-places for 4 months during the Pandemic, we decided we needed to move in together. We chose Portland, OR for Jeff's new engineering job, and for Portland's close ties with nature, tasty food, good music, and now my Acupuncture school! We love it here, and it has been the best 6 years I could ever have dreamt meeting Jeff and building our home and world together.
