No bus stops just wave it down - Buses are named with their destination. Buses run on island time so be careful if there is somewhere specific you need to be. It's not unheard of for buses to stop at supermarkets and wait for passengers to do their shopping. In Apia the main bus terminal is located behind the food market in Fugalei and Savalolo. Most you should expect to pay is $7.40 NZD per person. Payment cash only.
You can catch a local bus from Apia to Faleolo International Airport in your flight arrives before 5pm for about $3.10.
Lots of taxis in Upolu and Savai'i, easy and inexpensive way to get around. Taxis aren't metered so you agree on a fare with the driver before departing. As a guide its $30.90-$37.10 NZD to travel from Faeolo International Airport to Apia. Short trips around town range from $1.90-$7.40. If you hit it off with a driver early on, it can be worth getting their telephone number and use their service during your stay. You could negotiate decent day rates that compare better than hiring a car.
