5th Ave - Shopping / Restaurants / Bars
Dan & I were pleasantly surprised by the charm of Avenida Quinta (5th Avenue), which is just a two block walk from the hotel. Cars aren't allowed and you can stroll up and down for breakfast, lunch, dinner, buy another swimsuit at several cute stores, or buy that sombrero you always wanted (yes, there are plenty of touristy stores, too). The food at the Hyatt is outstanding, but, since you will be eating dinner there Friday and Saturday nights, we strongly encourage you to walk down 5th Avenue and for a meal or two. As many of you know, I've been to Mexico several times, and, this is one time I would say to for sure leave the hotel as 5th avenue is convenient and is adorable. Here are a few standout places we liked: the Teapot (for tea), Chez Celine for coffee/pastry/full breakfast, Almirante Pech (drinks/dinner), Madre Tierra (on a charming corner, very reasonable). Please see the attached list for more recommendations from the hotel that we vetted with locals. Bars: There are too many to list, it is really up to your preference. Almirante Pech & Madre Tierra had decent sized bar areas and I would venture to say we would be at either on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
