We will be providing transportation (Irro Charter Buses) to and from Brașov, as well as for planned excursions to two castles while we are in Brașov. Please be aware that the bus will leave Bucharest on the 27th of July at 8am! If you are unable to arrive into Bucharest on or before July 26th, you will have to find your own transportation to and from Brașov.
If you wish, however, to have some more freedom while in Romania you are more than welcome to rent a car. Please note that you will need to obtain an international driving permit before you leave the states. These can be purchased at any AAA location with a valid driver's license, 2 passport photos and completed application form which you can find here:

Please let us know if you are planning on renting a car or utilizing the transportation provided when you RSVP.
No. All guests will be flying into Bucharest.
The wedding is in Brașov which is located in the mountains, north of Bucharest. We will be providing transportation with Irro Charter Buses from Bucharest to Brașov. They will also provide transportation for both castle tours. The hotel that you will be staying at in Brașov is within walking distance from the wedding venue. There are local buses and Ubers that can provide transportation to downtown Brașov or any other local attractions.
If you are unable to get to Bucharest before the 26th of July because of scheduling concerns but still want to attend the wedding, there are other ways that you can get to Brașov. You can rent a car (please be sure to get your AAA International Driving Permit) or there is a train that leaves daily from Bucharest and travels to Brașov. You can take either the subway or an Uber from the airport (OTP) to the train station in Bucharest. When arriving in Brașov you can take an Uber or taxi to your hotel. Please be sure to let Jen know if you cannot arrive into Bucharest prior to or on the 26th of July.
We highly recommend using Uber to get around in Bucharest. It is very inexpensive and reliable. Cab drivers there tend to try to set their own rates and will sometimes refuse rides if it's not in a direction they want to go.
The subway is also a great and very cheap way of getting around if you're feeling adventurous. Its a very easy system and they use Apple Pay "tap to pay" for your ticket to enter the subway.
The City also has hop-on hop-off buses if you want a nice tour of popular spots, and of course you're also welcome to walk around from place to place as well.
MOST people in Bucharest are bilingual. Anyone working in a hotel or restaurant will be able to speak English. Likewise, most people in Braşov, especially highly trafficked areas, will be able to communicate in English.
In Romania the currency is the Leu. I would recommend not bringing a lot of American cash with you to exchange and instead, use an ATM in Bucharest or Braşov to take out Romanian money. Most places in Romania accept Visa or Mastercard if you prefer to use a card to make purchases. You may find some places that don't accept Discover or American Express. At the moment I am writing this the exchange rate is $1 = 4.59 Lei.
Bucharest AND Braşov are both Extremely safe cities. Like any city it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and watch your personal belongings.
The weather in Bucharest in July is very warm. It is not unusual for it to be in the high 80's or 90's during the day. Brașov is generally a bit cooler with temperatures in the 70's and 80's as it is situated higher in the mountains. At night the temperatures drop usually into the 50's and 60's. All of the hotel options in both Bucharest and Brașov that we've chosen have air conditioning for your comfort.
The dress code for wedding day is cocktail attire and the welcome & rehearsal dinners in Bucharest & Brasov will be elegant casual.
You will also want to pack casual, comfortable clothing and shoes that you can walk around both cities in. For those who would like to go hiking, you don't need anything fancy. Simple workout clothing and sneakers will suffice.
Plan to pack items that you can wear more than once or items that you can layer easily if trying to save space in your bag.
US power sockets and European power sockets are different. You will not be able to use your American phone chargers etc without a converter. Please also note that voltage in Europe is different than voltage in the US. It tends to be higher so be careful when using curlers/straighteners/razors because higher voltage can fry your appliance.
Here is an Amazon link to a great universal converter if you don't have one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FO4W5W2?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_20QQYN0BBY8H0Z6KNSHE
I have provided links to hotels in both Bucharest and Brașov for guests to view. The options listed offer a more economical option as well as a more expensive option for guests who want to splurge.

Many words are similar to English words. You’ll recognize Hotel and Restaurant are the same and you may recognize some very similar words to other Romance languages like words in Spanish, French, Italian or Portuguese.
