Jen and Lance met for the first time at an Entrepreneur Happy Hour organized by their mutual friend, Kent. The meeting took place at SOL in Mount Pleasant, SC. They talked business and Jen gave Lance her business card.

The very next day, Lance reached out to Jen for the first time. He asked her for a meeting to learn more about her business. He gave her different options, and she chose a happy hour for that day. They decided to meet at 5:30 at Biergarten in Downtown Charleston.

To both their surprises, they ended up shifting the conversation to start to get to know each other on a personal level. They talked about all different aspects of life...including Lance's past experience learning to break-dance. :) (He gives permission to share this fact with you all now.) As he was sharing this fun fact, he took a moment to say, "Why am I telling you all this? I just feel so comfortable talking with you." He also shared how he was a dad, and as he did, Jen could see how much his son meant to him. Looking back, for Jen, this was the moment she felt very drawn to him as a person. But, don't get Jen or Lance wrong...at this moment in time it was not meant to be romantic - no, no "It was JUST business." But, a business meeting that lasted 5 hours!

After some travels, and making it back to Charleston, Lance reached back out Jen to organize another "business meeting." They decided to meet for coffee at Sena Cafe. When Jen walked in, and went to say hi to Lance, he looked at her with his blue eyes, and all Jen could think was, "On no, I'm toast! I think I like him." It was at this coffee "business meeting" that they discussed that they both enjoyed biking, and Lance invited Jen to go on a bike adventure with him.

The first bike adventure day and the day Lance took Jen to the "Kissing Bench". They call it the kissing bench, because it was the moment they both individually knew that it might be more than "business." They didn't actually kiss on the bench that day, but Lance felt that he might want to kiss Jen. Jen could sense that he felt this way, and it hit her that she might want him to kiss her. But, she wasn't sure if she was ready. Deep down she knew that if she started on the romantic path with Lance, that it would be the real deal. She needed a moment to reflect on if she was ready to walk that path.

The very next day, Lance invited Jen to see Mark Bryan from Hootie & the Blowfish play at Awendaw Green. She said yes, and knew that she was ready for it to more than just "business" with him. That night as Mark played "Only Wanna Be With You" Jen and Lance both knew they were on the romantic path together. As they held hands for the first time that night, their greatest adventure began.

Six months later was a big milestone in Jen & Lance's relationship. It was when Lance introduced Jen to his son, Nicolas. They went and played mini golf and arcade games at Charleston Fun Park. Before meeting, Lance explained to Jen that this was a bigger deal than if he were to propose. Jen knew how big of a deal this was. She was nervous, however as soon as she met Nicolas she thought the world of him! It turned out she made an okay impression as well, because he said he thought she was cool.

The next big milestone happened about a year later. Due to quarantine times in 2020, Jen began spending more and more time at Lance's and Nicolas' house. Over dinner one evening they both asked Jen if she would be open to officially moving in. She was very excited to say yes, and on September 19, 2020 they helped her officially move from West Ashley to their home in Mount Pleasant.

On September 24, 2021, Lance asked Jen to go for a walk before they left on a couples weekend get-away together. As they wandered together, Lance discussed electrical wiring with Jen, so let's just say Jen did not see a romantic moment coming. They made their way to the "Kissing Bench." And, at the spot where three years prior they both realized they wanted more than "just business," Lance asked Jen if she would do him the honor of becoming Mrs. Lance Cleveland. Through tears of joy, Jen said YES!!
