Save the date! July 2nd is the day that we’ve chosen to get married. Save the place! We are getting married at Le Joncquier, the Duterte family home in Fayence, France. Fayence is a beautiful, quaint hilltop 16th century village in the south of France and the old olive farm is where Tristan spent many childhood holidays. We visited last year and both knew it was the place where we’d like to get married. Le Joncquier has been in the family for many years and is not a typical wedding venue or any kind of event venue, and we hope you’ll come to love the rustic charm that we are drawn to. We would love to see you there if you are able to make it!

Getting there: The closest international airport is Nice Côte d'Azure (NCE) which has direct flights from NYC, 1 hour away. The other option is Marseille Provence (MRS) about 2 hours away. Coming by train from Paris will take a bit longer than flying through Nice. The closest train stations are St Raphaël Valescure and Cannes, a 40 min drive away. Fayence is in the back country, poorly served by public transportation, so you'll need a car. Travel

There are 9 hilltop 16th century villages in the region. Close by are Fayence of course, Tourettes which is on the other side of the hill from Fayence, and Mons, a few miles up the road, in the middle of the woods. Villages Perchés

If you are into modern art, La Fondation Maeght is a must see, including a gorgeous Shagall. S<a href="https://www.saint-pauldevence.com/en/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">t Paul de Vence</a>, the small town nearby, is also a great place to spend half a day. About an hour away from Fayence.

Not many people know, but Henri Matisse designed a chapelle just outside St Paul de Vence. The story of the chapelle design, which involved a nun, is told in a documentary "A Model For Matisse," which is worth watching before visiting.

Three times a week, a farmers market takes place on Fayence's Place de l'Eglise. Local farmers and artisans sell fresh veggies, delicious fruits, the best olive oil in the world, utensils and bowls made out of olive tree wood, and other goods.

The entire French Riviera is within a couple of hours drive. As a warning: in the summer, the coast is more crowded than the back country, but you have it all: the Promenade de Anglais in Nice, the luxury lifestyle of Monaco, St Tropez where the stars like to tan, Cannes where they walk the Tapis Rouge. <a href="https://provence-alpes-cotedazur.com/en/get-inspired/james-bond-a-spy-on-the-cote-dazur/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Even James Bond has been a regular visitor</a>.

The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, also called Villa Île-de-France, is a French seaside villa located at Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on the French Riviera. Designed by the French architect Aaron Messiah, it was built between 1907 and 1912 by Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild. It is famous for its beautiful gardens.

Monday, July 11, 2022 Hello all, We have just returned to Brooklyn after spending a miniature honeymoon exploring the many perfumes of Grasse, a day at the beach near Monaco, and then finally a few days in Paris where we spent more time with family and friends new and old. Now that we’re home and have had some time to reflect on the events of the past few months leading all the way up to our wedding, we want to thank you all for coming, many from across the Atlantic, to share these special moments with us. This was very much a homemade wedding and we want to acknowledge and thank the people who have made it possible. Thank you, Jean-Paul and Beatrice, who have stepped in with such dedication and care, taking patiently our direction from New York City, coming to Fayence twice to prepare the place for the event. We also thank you for the tables, chairs, and dinnerware, and for the flowers. Jean-Paul built the arch and the holders for the table numbers, all from the trimmed wood of the tree. Beatrice handmade all the lavender filled hearts with your names embroidered so she has gotten to know everyone (by name at least!) very well. Thank you uncles Nicolas, Olivier, and Christophe, who worked tirelessly to make the grounds ready for the event, coming weeks ahead to do the heavy yard work. The grounds of Le Joncquier haven’t looked that good for at least 20 years. Nothing stopped them, not the sweltering temperatures, the angry flies, nor the equipment failures. Thank you, aunts Joelle and Galina, for the delicious dishes throughout the week (and to Daniella and Eric R for your beautiful chopping). Thank you to Cindy B for helping with the food and drinks before the wedding too! Thank you TinMin who was invited as a guest and helped from the day he arrived till the day he left - a whole week -, from the design of the pamphlet to installing the outdoor lights to cooking delicious meals to pining Tristan’s boutonnière. TinMin has now been voted an honorary member of the Bel-Duterte family. For the event itself: Thank you Julia, our officiant and Chris, our musician. We were so happy to have you both take on such important roles in the wedding and we feel like we couldn’t have made a better choice! Thank you Carmelo for the dress that made the bride so beautiful and happy. Thank you to the readers/singers: Jean-Paul and Beatrice for chanting the mantras, Nicolas for reading the poem by Alfred de Musset, and Daniella, the poem by Andre Breton. Thank you to Mickael, the photographer, for indulging Tristan in his artistic direction and putting such care from beginning to end, and Eric for video recording with flexibility and skill. Thank you to Beatrice and her assistant Jean-Paul, for concocting the sangria and the tasty dips for the aperitif. Thank you Galina, our games master, and her assistant and translator Nicolas. They made the event even more memorable and engaging. Thank you uncle Nicolas for the wine, that he helped produce from the preparation of the vines all the way to bottling. Thank you Beatrice for the cremant, which is a production of my cousin Lucien. If you’re wondering where such delicious liquides might be from, they originate in Burgundy where Tristan’s ancestor, Claude Brosse lived and made the vineyard of the Maconnais famous by going to Paris to sell his wines directly to Louis the XIV - <a href="https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Brosse" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">true story</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp; Thank you to Benjamin, our chef and his helpers, for designing, preparing, and serving this delicious meal for 50 people out of a home kitchen. Many of the ingredients were from his own garden. For the touching toasts and translations, thank you Jean-Paul, Carmelo, Daniella, Elizabeth, Nicolas, JC, uncle Nicolas, Neela, and Laura. In closing, we want to thank Henri Duterte (Papa Henri) and Marie-Antoinette Brosse (Manène) for finding and acquiring Le Joncquier in 1976, shortly after their first grandson Tristan was born. The big house was then in disrepair and the only construction on the property. They had the vision of a place where friends and family could gather and enjoy each other’s company and the simple pleasures of life. They made it happen and almost half a century later, many years after they left this earth, their vision is still alive.
