Our Story

How we met!

Picture of How we met!

In 2017 we met on a trip called Teens Westward Bound, a trip designed for high school students to travel out west, see the country, and make lifelong friends. A trip which Jenna had been waiting for years to attend and a trip that Cameron had only heard about a few weeks before it began and which he only just made the cut. We quickly became very good friends and made memories that will last a lifetime, ones which we still laugh about and reminisce on! The groups on the trip were named after the 7 dwarfs from Snow White with our group being called the Sleepy's. We lost every single competition and always finished last place even when they tried to help us. Regardless of all the loses, we still count the trip as a win!

I remember thinking how breathtaking the sunset over the Grand Canyon was, then I thought that surely the sunrise over the fields of Wyoming was even better. Now I'm sure the most breathtaking view will be the one I get to see every morning for the rest of my life

Everyone on the trip was special, but some people really stuck out. Cameron was one of those people. Even though I wasn't sure how, I knew that he would always be in my life.

The time in-between...

After coming home from TWB, we both parted ways to the next chapters of our lives. Jenna continued to finish high school and then go on to attend Anderson University to pursue a degree in Christian Studies. Cameron went on that fall to attend College of Charleston to pursue a degree in Exercise Science until the quick realization that college is a tad bit expensive. After that revelation, Cameron joined the Navy, and was promptly shipped off to Japan after graduating Basic Training and additional training. After several years, this was the grounds for which the relationship took off against all odds!

Though unplanned, Cameron and I would talk once every three months and I always looked forward to that. It was very special to me that we were able to keep in touch over all those years.

Something I'd learned while away was that time and distance have a way of refining who is in your life. My friend group grew smaller, those I kept in touch with were fewer, and the time spent with people I cared about came rarely amidst deployments. God has blessed me with these people, and I am forever grateful that Jenna was one of them most dearest to my heart.

February 25, 2021

After some months of cat and mouse, Jenna and Cameron finally expressed their feelings for each other and that long-distance was something they would be willing to try and tackle together. Which is a good thing, because they had 10 months of it ahead of them, shortly followed by another year and 4 months. Sending packages and letters back and forth was not unusual for them, but the package Cameron sent to Jenna on February 25, 2021 certainly stuck out. That's how it all started and Jenna and Cameron were offical! The best adventure yet.

February 25th, what a special day! I remember the peace I had after opening the package from Cameron and that is so special to me. I am very thankful that God gave me that peace and placed such a special man in my life.

I remember FaceTiming Jenna on the flight line in Japan that day. It was 2 am, freezing cold, and I was in the middle of working but I knew what that phone call would entail! After that, it suddenly wasn't so cold the rest of the night, my heart was full of warmth that Jenna decided to be mine!

Reunited and it feels so good!

Picture of Reunited and it feels so good!

After 2 and a half years, 2 deployments, countless phone calls, letters, packages, and several sleepless nights, Cameron and Jenna would finally be reunited. On May 5, 2023 Cameron came home from the Navy and began scheming ways to ask Jenna to marry him, although this would take until the end of the year to accomplish. During this time, Jenna and Cameron were inseparable. Many trips, naps, and coffee dates only pushed them closer to what was next on December 30th...

Cameron coming home was a long-awaited dream come true. I love spending time with him. He is my best friend.

-Jenna

Ask any of my friends or family what I was doing if I wasn't busy and they'd tell you I was spending all my time with Jenna. If you'd ask me, I'd tell you I had years to make up for! Time spent with Jenna is never wasted.

December 30, 2023

Jenna and Cameron had talked a lot about getting engaged in 2023 but the end of the year was quickly approaching. Cameron planned several dates in the last two weeks of December to avoid being obvious about the proposal. Crowder's Mountain holds a special place in their heart and hiking it was on the list! December 30th, the second to last day of the year, they bundled up and headed that way. Cameron felt at peace the whole day and everything came together perfectly. Once they arrived to the top of the mountain, they set up the eno and read together. Finally, it was time to pop the question. Cameron told Jenna he had something to give her but when she asked if she should stand he said no! She just knew he wasn't going to propose then. He had even more planned than she had thought. Cameron gave Jenna a book special made for her. It talks about their story and how much she means to him. At the end, Cameron included a picture they had taken years before when he visited the first time and Jenna knew then! "Now you can stand up" Cameron said. "Jenna Danielle Bright, will you marry me pretty please?" And we all know, she jumped up and down and said yes!

I had high expectations because Cameron is so sweet and intentional, but he really outdid himself. Not only was the proposal great but he had a whole day ahead of us planned. I will always cherish that day and I am so thankful for how hard he worked to make it extra-special.

Greatest decision I've ever made.
