...was Jenna's first instinct for their relationship. But that's not where the story starts.

Ryan and Jenna first met freshman year at The University of Vermont during the spring semester, when they had an Intro to Film Production Class together. Jenna was running late to the first class, or so she thought, and burst into the room out of breath and very discombobulated despite the fact that the professor was not there yet. Ryan recalls her exaggerated entrance as the first time he saw Jenna and remembers thinking that she was "strange and urban"...thanks to her large red headphones. Since this was an elective, there were a lot of seniors in the class, and Jenna assumed Ryan was one of them due to his mature nature. She recalls being embarrassed at asking questions in the class because Ryan always seemed to know the answer. Later she learned he was just a freshman as well...but still seemed to know everything. Needless to say, it was not love at first sight.

They continued having classes together over the next few years, and Jenna would always start talking to Ryan despite his shy and confused demeanor. They also had a lot of mutual friends and would routinely run into each other - Jenna usually going to a party and Ryan leaving to go study.

During their junior year, Ryan and Jenna became actual friends and not just classmates. They had a class called Film Noir and Westerns where they sat next to each other. This was where their friendship grew and when Jenna found out that Ryan was allergic to peanuts...after unknowingly eating Nutter Butters next to him at every screening for at least the first half of the semester.

Both Ryan and Jenna both separately decided to study abroad in Italy at the same time, but in different cities. Upon returning, they found out that the other was now recently single. Jenna thought nothing of this...but Ryan started to become interested. They had another class fall semester of their senior year and he asked if she wanted to get dinner to "catch up and talk about Italy". Jenna, being incredibly naive, assumed this was not a date...until 10 minutes before he showed up where she changed clothes 5 times just in case it was but didn't want to seem like it was a date. When Ryan showed up, she knew it was a date immediately, and proceeded to freak out.

At first, Jenna was nervous to call this anything as it was their senior year and they both would be graduating and leaving Vermont. Ryan didn't love this idea, but agreed to not call it anything just to spend more time with Jenna. Eventually, Jenna realized that she was only spending her time with Ryan and thought that maybe it was OK to finally call it something.

Fast forward 7 years later - Ryan decided that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Jenna. Ryan had always known that he wanted to propose to Jenna on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is a very special place for them. Jenna's best friend, and Maid of Honor, made a cover story to make Jenna "dress up" and be on the Upper East Side, which is not really a neighborhood the two of them spend time in. Since they were already on the Upper East Side, Ryan suggested that they go to the MET to see William, the Blue Hippopotamus who is the museums mascot...apparently. Jenna thought this was a little ridiculous to go to the MET to see a figurine, and gave Ryan a really hard time about it, but he seemed to really want to go so she went along with it - but still thought it was weird. Once they got to the steps, Ryan proposed to Jenna in the rain....and she, of course, said "Yes!". And that is where they are today. This unlikely pair deciding to spend the rest of their crazy lives together.

P.S. Jenna wants everyone to know that she wrote the original version of this "Our Story" and Ryan insisted on editing it.
