What will the weather be like?
At the same time last year, it was hot/ sunny that week, about 30C/ 85F and the temperature didn't seem to go up and down too much in the weeks around it. You never know but we'll keep an eye on it and update this bit!
Where should we stay?
We recommend staying in/ around Palma because it's well-connected and will be pretty easy to get everywhere. There are loads of Air BnB/ apartment options in town and plenty of hotels- we've put 4 or 5 of our top selections in the 'Accommodation' section but, as with any of this, feel free to ask us if you want a hand/ suggestions.
When should we book a place to stay?
Whenever you've figured out dates and stuff, go for it! We haven't done a block booking anywhere as people are staying in different places for different amounts of time but definitely good to get something booked in when you're ready just in case it gets busier.
How do we get from the airport to our hotel/ place we're staying?
Taxi's the best/ quickest way. There's a taxi rank right there when you come out of the airport and it should be 15 or 20 euros to get to anywhere in Palma.
How will we get to the wedding?
We’ll arrange a shuttle or two from Palma that pick up at a central location. You can also book a taxi to the event (if you are not staying in Palma, for example) but make sure to organize in advance! There is no Uber service or anything like that on the island, and taxis can be temperamental when not at main places like the airport or center of Palma.
What are some important things to bring?
Comfortable clothes are definitely the main thing!
Swimsuit if you're going to swim.
A phone charger adapter (for the kinda two round spikes plug sockets) could be useful.
Do I need to bring cash?
Most places like restaurants and bars have card machines but good to have a bit of cash on you for odd things like if you want to leave a tip or for taxis as they often don't have card machines.
Is it the done thing to leave tips?
Tips definitely aren't expected but will always be happily received.
It depends what you're doing really. Don't worry about it for a coffee or a sandwich but if you put 2 or 3 Euros (or more!) down after a meal, that'll go down really well. For the U.S. guests, the 20% tip isn't a thing.
Will it be helpful to know any Spanish?
Sure! Your efforts to greet people and order in Spanish will be greeted warmly. However, it's not at all necessary to speak any Spanish in order to get by. The hospitality industry in Mallorca is full of people fluent in English, and most menus are in English.
Also, if you're a confident Spanish speaker and are confused why the signs are full of unknown words, that's because they're in Catalan! Catalan and Spanish are the two official languages of Mallorca, and signs always start with the Catalan, but everyone you'll encounter will speak Spanish.
