Reception

Our Wedding

On Sunday, October 30th, 2016, over Starbucks coffee, as the Falcons prepared to play Green Bay, our lives would forever be changed. Although our first "date" was just casual conversation between two people eager to finally meet, it was enough to leave both of us wanting to get to know each other more. Jen or as Daron calls her, Coleen, was dressed in Eagles gear and was rocking crutches as she had recently broken her ankle. And Daron was trying to multi-task while on the date, interrupting their "getting to know you" convo with calls from his friends wondering where he disappeared to as they were all tailgate prepping.

The first date didn't involve anything fancy; there was not an expensive dinner nor over the top gestures. Instead the first date was just two people who really enjoyed each other's thoughts, values, aspirations, and outlook on life, who recognized and appreciated something in the other that made them want to see where this could go. And go it did!

After that first date, we spent countless more times just talking and getting to know and really appreciate each other. With Jen's ankle broken the date options were limited, but that didn't stop us. We would spend many nights just parked in the car talking about our past experiences, future goals, and simply what made us, us. Who would have known a broken bone would have been such a blessing in disguise allowing us to really get to know each other.

From there, Jen's ankle healed and the date options opened up so we began to do more: dinner at PF Changs, a Hawks game, the gun range and lots of other fun adventures. We continued to have a great time not really defining what "this was". It wasn't until one of the Groomsmen, Stefon, met Jen and Daron at a local gun show did the relationship become official. After walking the gun show and chatting with the couple, Stefon wasted no time asking the tough questions. One of those questions was, "So are you guys officially together?" Being a little shocked at the upfront nature of the question there was a slight pause as both Jen and Daron looked at each other shocked at the bluntness. Not knowing how Daron would respond Jen replied confidently "Yes, we are together". And from there, it was official - we were a couple.

The next several months we solidified a true friendship. We became each other's person (Grey's Anatomy reference). If anything special happened, anything good or bad, the first person they wanted to call and tell was each other. No subject, no matter how upsetting or controversial was left untouched. There were many laughs, and to be honest, some cries over the next several months. We were truly getting to know each other and falling in love with each other.

Fast forward to September 2017, while in Washington, D.C. at a Transformers Convention their lives would change again. At the Courtyard Marriott in Tyson's Corner, VA, with a Transformer named Sea Spray, Daron asked Coleen to be his wife and of course her answer was "Yes, Yes, Yes"!

Deciding to marry wasn't the end of our great September either; that month we made a baby. Having a child wasn't something either of us had planned to do so early in the relationship, however; God's timing is perfect and we are so thankful for David Anakin Walters who was born June 17th, 2018.

We both are so grateful for each other, for our son, and for our upcoming celebration of marriage on April 19th, 2019. We look forward to celebrating our love with the ones we love and kicking off our forever to each other! Thank you for sharing this special moment with us!

One half of the dynamic duo I call my twin sisters. Nicki is the headstrong, brown eyed girl who most reminded me of myself when we were younger. She wanted to know everything, be in everything, and didn't stop talking about everything - just like me. Now she is a successful dental assistant who enjoys spending time with her dog Ruby and painting masterpieces at SipNStrokes.

Vicki is the one who has never been scared to walk to the beat of her own drum. Always having been a little different with her blonde hair, light eyes, and outie belly button, in a household of brown hair, brown eyes and inies, she has always stood out and she's embraced it. She makes friends easily and if you have ever had the pleasure of being around her you know she is a ray of sunshine - always leaving the room brighter than when she entered it.

Jermaine is my oldest friend. We have known each other since we were four
years old. Going to school to Cleveland
Ave, Long and South Atlanta and playing baseball together at Hapeville and
South Atlanta has been some of my best life memories. Zig has been a brother who would always hold
me accountable and keep me humble. He
has also given me some of the best life lessons that I will always live
by. A staunch proponent of marriage, Zig
has honored us with being a part of the bridal party.

I remember the day my parents brought Katie home from the hospital. I was only 5 but I was ready to be the best big sister. Every time my mom left the room I would sneak and pick up my little sister. That bond grew stronger as time went on. As we grew up Katie was the one who wanted to be just like me. She would steal my jewelry, clothes, whatever she could get her hands on. All Katie wanted to do was be like her big sister Jenny and nothing made me more proud as I watched her turn into a beautiful, kind, smart young woman and mother of 2 of my favorite little people.

Spivey doesn't say much but when he does it’s most likely a
shot at me. Spivey is my brother who our
relationship is trolling one another.
Whether it is how he was better football player at Clark Atlanta or
about me being an avid toy collector, or who was on the scene more, we find a
way to take our shots at each other. Trolling aside, Spivey has been a friend,
no a brother, who under that quiet exterior always has my best interest at
heart. My wedding would not be complete
if he was not a part of it.

Literally my partner in crime, Gabby has had my back and I've had hers since we met back at Skyline Middle School. We have grown and matured since our crazy teenage years from reckless youth to now wives (soon to be for me) and mothers. No matter where our lives have taken us, our friendship has grown and continues to mature and transform.

Hey Bay Bay!!! Man….
so much I can say about my little cousin but let me start by saying I think he
is one of the best men alive. Everyone
uses the term real, but I can honestly say, Bay Bay is real in every sense of
the term. A real friend who is always
available and who does not mind not being the focus of attention. Jen and I are especially blessed with Bay Bay
and Nikki (his girlfriend) because they had their son B3 the day after our son
David was born. Jen is a huge Bay Bay
fan (as am I) so it was only right that I asked him to be in our wedding. I would have bet my last that he would say yes
and he did emphatically.

My fellow Blue Hen, my fellow Delawarean and now ATLien, Thelma to my Louise - Jazz is many things to me but most importantly she is one of my best forever friends. As part of our college clique, 713 Divas, we formed a friendship that cannot be broken. We have grown from youthful college kids staying up all night playing spades to successful semi-young professionals. We have shared more ups than downs, more smiles and laughs than cries, more joy than sorrow but no matter what we have always been there for each other. As my Poppop so eloquently explained, "Friends are the family we choose" and Jasmine is someone I choose over and over again.

I met Double R in Mr. Davis's 9thgrade social
science class in 1994 and ever since it’s been on. Nothing I can think of better symbolizes the
brotherhood Rashad and I have like our time playing football at South
Atlanta: we would match sleeves &
socks before every game and have our pregame talk and hi-5 combo while being
the last ones onto the field. From high
school, to college, to partying at Visions, to day parties and tailgates our
brotherhood has grown stronger over the years and I am honored to have him as a
groomsman.

Rashad "Double R" Reeves

If you know Daron then you know Demetrius, maybe not bythe name Demetrius but by Calhoun. Calhoun is the opinionated friend who I talk to all day like 2 high schoolers about everything under the sun: sports, community and of course dating. I could not think of a better choice as my best man. He has been nothing but supportive of the journey Jen and I have been on making us both laugh throughout the voyage.

Demetrius "Calhoun" Grant

Who knew the summer before my Freshman year of high school I would meet a friend who would turn into family, who would literally change my life. From the very beginning our friendship was formed with laughs, jokes, and fun at its core and that hasn't ever changed. If you have ever had the pleasure of being around Amy and I, you know just how goofy we can be and how we don't need anyone or anything to have a great time - just her and I together is all we need!I really believe God brought us together to help fill a void we didn't even know we each had. I can honestly say the friendship that we formed turned into family and I am blessed to have Amy in my life.
