Jen and Peter met while Jen was in medical school in Chicago and Peter was working as a Firefighter. They hit it off right away as they both shared the same values of faith, family, and dedication to their work. Their relationship started during the COVID pandemic which meant many texts and long phone calls. This built a strong foundation where they had to learn to communicate and get to know one another without seeing each other often.
When they finally met in person, it was like no time had passed. They clicked just as they had anticipated. From social distancing on dates, to surviing a fierce Chicago blizzard where they watched Netflix in Peter's truck bundled up with blankets, sharing popcorn and stories. It was a night that felt like a scene from a movie, setting the tone for their future adventures.
They shared many fun dates including a trip to Indiana to pick up their dog Hattie! When Jen graduated medical school and matched into pediatric residency in Milwaukee, which meant their relationship wouild now face the test of distance. Determined to continue to make it work. They valued their weekends together and had fun exploring Wisconsin with breweries, wineries, and lots of cheese!
The miles between Chicago and Milwaukee only seemed to bind them closer. Peter and Jen learned from each other as their relationship grew. Peter shared with Jen his passion for cooking and values. Jen shared with Peter her love for running and taught him the art of browsing retail stores. They both enjoyed many wine dates and decided to learn how to make wine together. As of 2024 they are officially Winemakers! Having made over 60 bottles within their first year! They made weekend trips, long phone calls, and shared every small victory and challenge. Their love grew stronger with each obstacle overcome.
They also found they enjoyed traveling together and made memories in California, Arizona, Tennessee, Florida, and Dominican Republic. However, their favorite nights are spent in with their dogs Hattie and Olaf watching football or a movie. With Hattie and Olaf they quickly became a bridge, a piece of home in each others space, symbolizing their commitment and love.
Their lives have changed over the past four years including buying new houses and changing jobs, but they have continued to support each other through it all. Even with Peter's unpredictable shifts at the fire house and Jen's demanding residency schedule, they still made time for each other and found ways to grow in their relationship. They found that distance had deepened their bond rather than weakening it. They were not just in love, they were partners, growing together through every twist and turn in life. Jen and Peter knew their futures would be brighter together.
This past May, Peter surprised Jen with a romantic proposal and she said YES! Their story is one of love adapting to the times, finding joy in the journey, and proving that the heart finds a way, no matter the distance.
