I'm sure you all have a thousand questions and I'll attempt to answer as many as possible here. If I miss something, please do not hesitate to reach out to either of us with any other questions you might have!
~General Questions~
What's the weather typically doing that time of year?
Honestly, your guess is as good as mine. Typically the month of May is gorgeous in Juneau though. It tends to be sunny and more importantly DRY! We chose May for a reason but with that being said I highly recommend packing a rain jacket and some boots as the odds of it being rainy and cold are high.
Where should we fly into?
Fly into Juneau! Our airport is small but busy and has a ton of flights coming in every day during the summer season. Lots of direct flights from Seattle daily!
Where should we stay?
The wedding and whale watch are based out of the Auke Bay area of Juneau so trying to stay around that area will probably be your best bet. There are a ton of airbnb's in Juneau and Auke Bay, Lena Pt, the Mendenhall Valley, and Backloop are all great spots to be based for the weekend. Places to avoid are North Douglas, Thane, and Lemon Creek.
Should we rent a car?
There is public transit in Juneau but not a ton of it so we suggest renting a car for the weekend.
Can we bring the kids?
Yes! All events are kid friendly!
~Whale Watch Questions~
How much does the whale watch event cost?
Absolutely nothing! This is our treat to all of you!
Is it mandatory?
Not at all! But alsooo why would you pass on a free whale watch?!
How long is the whale watch?
3 hours, 1:00pm-4:00pm
What time should we be at Statter Harbor?
I cannot stress this enough- Please be at Statter Harbor ready to board the boat between 12:30-12:45pm. The boat leaves the dock right at 1:00pm and they will not hesitate to leave you. If you are running late please call Ed or myself and we'll do what we can to hold the boat for you....just don't be late :)
What should we bring?
Just a little bit of cash for the bar and your cameras!
Will there be food and beverages?
Yes! We will provide light snacks during the whale watch but the drinks are on you. The boat sells beer, wine, and cocktails and they take both card and cash.
What should we wear? Will it be cold?
Dress warm! The boat has a large outer deck to enjoy along with a completely covered lower deck with heat but you are on a moving boat and it tends to get chilly so pack a layer or two, a rain jacket and comfy shoes.
Will I get seasick?
It's so rare for people to get seasick on these tours but if you are at all stressed about it I suggest packing some dramamine or seasickness patches with you.
What about parking?
Statter Harbor is a pay to park harbor so please make note of that when finding a parking spot. We recommend carpooling as much as possible.
~Food Truck Questions~
Where are the food carts?
The Vintage Food Truck Park is located in the valley area of Juneau.
3031 Clinton Dr, Juneau, AK 99801
What is there to eat?
There are a handful of food carts there including a filipino spot, a crepe place, wings, mexican food, and a beer garden.
Is this a mandatory event?
Not at all! Join if you'd like or don't, Ed and I will be there with our families for dinner and it's a more the merrier situation.
What should we wear?
The answer is always whatever you are comfortable in. It is an outdoor venue and the sun will be going down around that time (kinda) so pack layers.
Is there parking?
Yes! Plenty of parking at the food carts.
~Wedding Day Questions~
Is this mandatory?
Yes, I feel like this one is mandatory. Please come to our wedding!
What's the wedding dress code?
We want our guests to be comfortable. Pants, slacks, dress, or tie please wear what YOU feel best in! Temperatures in late May can vary so layers may be needed. We are getting married outside on a beach so keep that in mind when outfit planning.
Where do we park?
There is plenty of parking at Auke Rec along the side of the road but please keep in mind that it is a holiday weekend and it will be busy, you might have to walk down to the Eagle Shelter. There is ample street parking in the downtown area for the reception along with garages and public parking lots just a block or two away from the venue.
