Love is in the Air

Josh and Jennifer were first introduced on January 6, 2020, by their mutual friend Alyssa Ivey at Brazwell’s Premium Pub. It was the season premiere of The Bachelor, and love was in the air as the TV screen rolled through the introductions of the contestants at the bar. Alyssa—one of Jenny’s bridesmaids and best friends—had let Josh know that Jenny would be at Brazwell’s that night. Little did they know, it would be an introduction that would last a lifetime.

When Josh and his brother (best man Matt Renegar) arrived at Brazwell’s, Jenny was already seated at the bar. Josh walked right up and sat next to her. (Note: The bar was empty, and there were plenty of other seats available.) Throughout the night, everyone at the bar chatted while watching The Bachelor. At one point, Alyssa made a comment to Josh: “You just need to put yourself out there and go on some dates.” To which Josh replied, “Maybe I’ll take Jenny on a date this week.” Jenny swiftly rebuked him, saying, “I’m sorry, but you’re not my type,” as Alyssa laughed and chimed in, “It doesn’t sound like she’s interested.”

Over the next few months, it became a running joke. Josh would ask Alyssa for Jenny’s number, but to no avail. Jenny and Josh continued to run into each other while out and about as friends (mostly still at Brazwell’s), even introducing each other to the people they were dating at the time. Then, COVID happened, and the city went into lockdown. During that time, Josh and Matt hosted many house parties, often centered around ping pong tournaments. At one of these gatherings, Josh posted an Instagram story playing ping pong. Jenny slid into his DMs, replying to his story, “I would crush you in a game of ping pong.”

Jenny persisted and followed up with a text message to Josh on April 10, saying, “I’m ready for our game of ping pong.”The match was set for April 17, 2020. It’s funny how things work out—especially after Jenny had said Josh wasn’t her type…

Jenny did end up beating Josh handily in that first game of ping pong, but Josh secured a much bigger win. Over the following weeks, their relationship grew from friendship to something more, and finally, Josh became Jenny’s type.

Their first official date was at the U.S. National Whitewater Center with Maggie (their goldendoodle). Their first trip was to Savannah, Georgia, in May 2020, and in June 2020, Josh asked Jenny to be his girlfriend. Over the years, they grew closer to each other, as well as to their families and friends. It all culminated in their engagement on July 27, 2024, at Madison Central Park during a walk with Maggie. Josh got down on one knee as Maggie held a tennis ball in her mouth, engraved with “Mom, will you marry Dad?” Jenny’s best friend, Megan Hunstad, and her boyfriend, Zach Presley, were camouflaged in the woods (literally) to take pictures and document the moment. The celebrations followed with a surprise party with family and friends.

We want to thank you for being a part of our story and for playing such an important role in who we are today—both as individuals and as a couple. Here’s to November 1, 2025!
