As of now, U.S. citizens do not need a visa to travel to Portugal. However, starting in mid-2025, American nationals will be required to apply for travel authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before arriving in Europe. This authorization will be necessary for entry into 30 European countries, including Portugal. We’ll update this website with more details and a direct link to the ETIAS application once it becomes available.

You will need an active passport to enter Portugal.

Please make sure your passport is current and not within 6 months of expiration. The current processing time for new passports is 12-14 weeks, however processing times may take longer.

We recommend flying directly into Lisbon through Humberto Delgado Airport.
