As Kevin and I, along with our families, are getting ready for our wedding, we wanted to take a moment and share with everyone why we chose this date specifically to get married.
My mom’s mother, Jane Riley Wiggins, was born on June 15, 1931. She married my grandfather, Gene Wiggins, on her seventeenth birthday in 1948. Memama and Dedaddy, as we called them, were amazing role models to all who knew them— both individually and as a couple. Memama was a Proverbs 31 woman personified, and I strive to be as strong in my faith as she was. Dedaddy was the definition of a hard-working family man who was extremely steadfast in his relationship with God. Together, they built a relationship and marriage based on mutual respect, loyalty, and hard work. I hope to emulate their relationship in my marriage and life with Kevin.
Memama and Dedaddy were married for almost 65 years before Dedaddy passed away in August of 2013. Memama stayed with us for five more years before she joined him in November of 2018. When we began looking at possible wedding dates for the summer of 2024, we realized that June 15th is on a Saturday! Kevin and I couldn’t imagine a more perfect and meaningful wedding date than Memama’s 93rd birthday and Memama and Dedaddy’s 76th wedding anniversary. We hope to see you all there to celebrate!
