Jeremy & Shakira met at a college ministry (United Fire), September 2020. The months progressed and the new year entered with a conflict between the both of them. Shakira met with Jeremy after a night of ministry and asked him to walk her to her car, planning to confront the situation. Shakira had strong feelings for Jeremy, but chose to keep it to herself, fearing a jeopardized friendship. After the encounter, Jeremy grew very fond of Shakira and chose to continue the friendship.

A few weeks after, they met at Revolucion Coffee to share each other’s testimonies and to grow a genuine friendship with each other. They spent the rest of the day there growing and learning, excited for their newly found relationship. Over the months they became good friends, but secretly harbored feelings and desires to be more than that. April 2021 came around when the two met at Chipotle before a night of ministry; what they thought would have been an hour chit-chat turned to a five hour conversation. The two shared laughs and a few hints of flirtatious jokes when suddenly, Jeremy and Shakira were spotted by two friends who also attended the same ministry they were to visit later that night. Since no mutual friends knew of their feelings, both had flushed faces knowing the secret was out.

In May of that same year, there was a celebration for a mutual friend’s baptism where Jeremy and Shakira met again. The two spoke until morning over the phone finally confessing their feelings towards one another, planning on what exactly their next steps looked like, both being patient and wanting to handle the situation carefully. They had their last solo meet as friends at yet another coffee shop, praying and discussing on what they should do next. The two had agreed to stay friends and to stay cordial until a final decision was made to make the relationship into something more.

The following Summer months flew by, though August came with bitter news. Jeremy had left the city for a month to be back in his hometown. The two missed each other and with the help of a close friend, Jeremy was able to see Shakira and her parents, asking them if he could date their daughter. After many months of dating, they’ve learned, healed, and loved together.
