You know the Rihanna song, and as cheesy as it sounds, it couldn’t be further from the truth. Jesse and Ashley found each other during a time when the “new normal” meant making real connections from behind screens. Their story goes something like this… Once upon a swipe, two strangers met online. One had a witty bio, the other was instantly amused by the prompt: Burritos, Pizza, or Burgers? A spark was lit, and from the very first exchange, the conversation flowed. No pressure, no pretense, just honesty, openness, and a sense that this felt easy. Their first meetup, like many during that era, had its share of awkward pauses. But as they walked through the Richmond District to Baker Beach and back, something clicked. They shared stories about childhood, hometowns, and all the little things that made them who they are. The similarities were there, and so was the desire to see each other again. What followed were a series of dates that quietly laid the foundation for something deeper. Skateboarding had always been a part of Jesse’s life, and Ashley had just started cruising on her longboard. Naturally, they headed to the Great Highway for their first official “Skate Date.” That ride changed something. They both knew this was going somewhere special. Soon after came their first dinner date. With indoor dining still off-limits, they grabbed pizza, picked up drinks, and found a bench near a corner bodega. It wasn’t fancy, but it felt right. Easy, effortless, and completely, them. One of the most memorable dates took them to the top of Twin Peaks, overlooking the city. They talked about expectations, future dreams, and what they were searching for in life. That night felt like the beginning of something real. There was a spark, no doubt. But before things could move forward, one very important figure had to weigh in: Penelope! A lovable Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Penny is Ashley’s loyal road dog, emotional compass, and the ultimate vibe-check. She wasn’t about to let just anyone into the circle. Jesse, a lifelong dog lover, felt confident… but also nervous. Penny approached him with cautious curiosity, gave him the once-over, and then something shifted. She sensed the bond already forming and leaned in, literally and figuratively. That moment sealed it. From then on, it wasn’t just a couple; it was a trio. A balanced little unit built on love, trust, and the perfect mix of chaos and calm. Penny didn’t just approve; she helped shape them. She reminded them to stay playful, present, and always up for the next adventure. As the three of them grew together, so did their connection. In every step, every trip, and every quiet moment at home, she’s been the heart that tied it all together. Inseparably the three, making them a true triple threat. Their shared love of road trips, nature, and spontaneous adventures pulled them beyond the city. Somewhere between winding highways, gas station snacks, and impromptu playlists, things got serious. Soon they had go-to burrito spots (more than one), were finishing each other’s fries (and sentences), and building a library of inside jokes that still make them laugh. At some point, the quiet realization came: this was it. They had found their forever person. The proposal was sweet, minimal, simple-ish. Very them. Jesse knew Ashley was his person and that he wanted her by his side for everything ahead. He had planned to propose a year earlier, but the timing never quite lined up. When the moment finally came, it wasn’t about the setting. It was about them. The stage was set in Mexico City. After a full day of museums, wandering the Zócalo, and soaking in the sights, they ended the night bar hopping. Somewhere between drinks and laughter, the big question came up. What Ashley didn’t know was that Jesse had been carrying a ring the entire trip, waiting for the right moment. He had stressed about timing and the perfect spot, but in that moment, none of it mattered. The door was open. The moment was here. And it was time. No flash, no attention. Just a quiet moment between two people who had already chosen each other a hundred times before. The “yes” came instantly. They held each other, called their families, and set out into the city glowing with joy. In true Jesse and Ashley fashion, they celebrated with tacos.
