Q: How far is the San Diego Airport from the borders?

A: The San Diego Airport is about an hour away from both borders.

Q: How far is the hotel from the TJ airport and border?

A: The hotel is located in Valle (aka Valle de Guadalupe). It is about 1.5 hours from the TJ airport and the border. You can GPS it on your phone and you will receive multiple routes. We recommend using the toll roads.

Q: Do I need WhatsApp?

A: We highly recommend downloading WhatsApp since many businesses in Mexico communicate through that app. Remember to always add +52 to any number you receive from a Mexican business.

Q: Will Mexico accept my cards for payment?

A: Many places in Mexico accept cards, but we highly recommend having pesos on hand, especially for the toll roads.

DRIVING THE BORDER

Q: What can I expect if I take my car through the border?

A: If you plan on taking your own car across the border prepare for border traffic just in case. Use the restroom beforehand, have water/snacks handy. The traffic is heavier crossing the border back into the US. You can check current border wait times here: https://bwt.cbp.gov/

WALKING THE BORDER

Q: How do I cross the border walking?

There are two main border crossings in San Diego. There is the Otay Mesa border and the San Ysidro Border. Both borders will have parking lots designated for overnight parking available. Once you've parked your car, you will see signs guiding you to the border crossing. If you struggle to find the signs, ask around. Dress comfortably, prepare to walk a bit. We recommend taking a suitcase with wheels. You CAN NOT cross the border walking through the airport. Do not confuse the two. Drive to the border NOT the TJ airport. And remember, DO NOT FORGET YOUR PASSPORT.

Q: What are my transportation options once in Mexico?

A: Taxi, Uber, car rental, or a shuttle service via Baja Excursion. Please note that once you're in Valle, taxis and Ubers are scarce.

Q: What are my options for renting a vehicle once in TJ?

A: We recommend renting from Enterprise. This is the rental service we personally use. They have an office at the TJ airport. We DO NOT recommend Budget. Whatever rental service you end up booking, go over reviews before booking.

Q: What are my options if I want to get a shuttle for a group?
