When should I book my flight?

Sao Miguel is a popular travel destination, therefore airfare tickets and hotel accommodations book quickly. Please plan accordingly. We recommend beginning your flight search for Winter 2024. Please plan to book between 7-12 Months before. Download the Hopper app to track flight prices and receive alerts on the best times to book. Additionally, be sure to check out TAP Portugal and SATA Airlines for more options.

What airport is best to fly into?

Ponta Delgada–João Paulo II Airport is the only airport you can fly into in São Miguel, Azores. When booking flights if you plan to end your trip in another country you may book an open jaw flight option and fly into Sao Miguel and use the multi city feature to fly home from another major Europe hub depending on where you choose to travel!

What should I make sure to pack?

When traveling abroad I always recommend bringing - plug converter (multiple and if you plan to use hair tools it must be able to handle that much strength or you will fry the converter) -portable phone charger -light jacket (As it is an island after all)-debit card or cash to get converted -passport ;) - sunglasses - comfortable walking shoes (VERY IMPORTANT)

Where should I stay during my travels?

Please visit our Travel tab for various accommodation options on the island. We highly recommend exploring local Airbnbs and hotels. Additionally, our wedding venue is located on the grounds of pestana bahia praia hotel where we will have a room blocks at three different nearby hotels! If you are interested in a room at the hotel please connect with Vanessa or Jessica!

Can I rent a car on the island?

What is expected of me during this trip?

We want you to be part of our big day, but we also want you to treat this as a vacation for yourselves. While there will be plenty to do on the island, we will work with our wedding planner to provide some suggestions for things to do while visiting!

What if I can't afford it?

We understand not everyone will be able to make this trip. Just be sure to let us know as soon as possible in the RSVP section!

What will the wedding weekend look like?

Guests are welcome to arrive any day they'd like but are encouraged to arrive by Friday/Saturday the latest, August 15th-16th! We will potentially have an optional welcome cocktail party at our Airbnb for guests that Saturday. On Sunday, the wedding activities will start at 4 pm and last till late at night. The following day, guests are welcome to join us for breakfast at Bar Praia de Água d'Alto! After that, guests are free to travel back or continue vacationing!

If I can't attend the wedding in person, will there be a virtual wedding celebration?

We’re exploring the possibility of having someone livestream the ceremony and select moments from the reception!

What is weather like in August?

August is the warmest month in the Azores, with an average daytime high of 78ºF and an average nighttime low of 66ºF. Make sure to pack a swim suit and some rain gear as island weather can be unpredictable.

What should I wear?

We would love to see our friends and family look and feel their best! We are requesting semi-formal attire for our wedding (Aka dressy casual or cocktail) please no jeans or t-shirts! Please note that the ceremony will take place outdoors on a grassy area by the water.

Will we be outdoors?

The ceremony and the cocktail hour will be outdoors. The reception will be held in a permanent frame tent on the hotel grounds.

What time should I arrive for the ceremony?

We kindly ask that you arrive at least 30 minutes before the ceremony begins.

Where do we park?

If you're driving to the venue, the hotel offers parking, and there are additional parking options available nearby, especially since the hotel is situated next to a beach. However, if you plan on drinking, please consider utilizing a taxi or carpooling with someone who will be sober at the end of the night. We want all our of guests to arrive and leave in a safe manner. Details on shuttle transportation to and from the venue on the wedding day to come, if available please stay tuned!

When will the Brides be traveling to Sǎo Miguel?

Arrival: Sunday 8/10/2025 - Departure: Friday 8/22/2025

Will my phone work on the island?

We strongly recommend downloading WhatsApp if you have a smartphone. It’s a fantastic way to stay connected with everyone during the wedding, especially the brides! Many providers, including T-Mobile, offer international packages that allow your phone to function fully during your stay. Jessica will be using this, so you can also text her if you choose not to download WhatsApp. If you have any questions about how this will work for you, don’t hesitate to reach out to Jessica or Vanessa for help.
