Our Wedding

Jessica and Matthew met in high school. Through time spent together playing D&amp;D, participating in book club, and traveling with classmates to London they discovered their shared loves of storytelling, philosophical debate, and playful competition. Their first date was on December 20, 2016, watching Moana in the theater while home from University for winter break. What followed was a whirlwind of long drives, laughter, and late night phone calls. They fell in love while dancing on the streets of Seattle, stargazing on Matthew's roof in Santa Cruz, wandering the halls of the Legion of Honor, and road-tripping up the coast for the eclipse. Since graduating University, they've moved many times: from Berkeley to Norway to Berkeley to Norway to Seattle to Berkeley and back to England. They're pursuing their dreams while prioritizing the one thing that's most important: staying together. We're so grateful for all the support our families continue to provide us as we adventure in the world. And we are extremely excited to share our special day with all of you as we commit to being life-long partners.

We've created a room block with Hyatt House in Downtown Portland. The wedding party will be staying here and we encourage guests to stay here as well. (If we decide to provide transportation to the wedding it will be from this location.) The block will close on May 28th, 2024. Any hotel bookings after that date will not be included in the block.

BookingYou can book a room using the Website link provided above or by calling and telling them the block code G-DEWI. We have reserved some Den Kings and some Studio Kings. Each Studio King includes a fully-equipped kitchen, which may be nice for those staying for multiple nights. If you'd like to book one of the other room types you can arrange that by calling the provided number. If you want a suite with an adjoining room, be sure to specify when booking so they can accommodate; note that the primary room will have the kitchen while any adjoining rooms will be a Den. Amenities- Free Breakfast- Pool- Fitness Center- Pet Friendly- Fully equipped kitchens (in all rooms but Dens) In the AreaHyatt House Portland/Downtown is within walking distance of a wide variety of things you might enjoy. It's less than a 5-minute walk from:- The South Waterfront Park (and small beaches along the Willamette River)- Restaurants- Cafes- A Nail Salon ParkingAt the hotel, valet parking is available for $45 per day with in and out privileges. Alternately, you can park in the Douglas Parking Garage right around the corner from the hotel. There is an hourly and a daily rate for the garage. It doesn't say online exactly what the daily rate is, but our recollection is that it's less than the Valet parking, however it does not offer in and out privileges.

Buses to the wedding

Buses will leave from the Hyatt House - Downtown Portland for the half-hour trip to Lakeside Gardens. (See Accomodations for additional details about the hotel) The times below are generally the bus' departure times. To get on a given bus, try to arrive 5-10 minutes before its departure time.

4:20 - First bus arrives at Hyatt House4:30 - First bus leaves from Hyatt House4:40 - Second bus leaves from Hyatt House4:50 - Third bus leaves from Hyatt House

Buses from the wedding

Buses will make multiple return trips to the hotel throughout the evening. The last song of the evening will be at 10:30, allowing everyone still there to gather their belongings and take the last bus back to the hotel.

9:15 - First bus leaves from Lakeside Gardens9:45 - Second bus leaves from Lakeside Gardens10:45 - Third bus leaves from Lakeside Gardens11:05 - Final bus leaves from Lakeside Gardens

If the exact timing of the buses don't work out for you, Portland has easy Uber/Lyft access that you can use to go to or from the wedding.

Driving Directions

For those who plan on driving to the venue, the drive from the hotel typically takes 25 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.

WARNING!! A 4-mile long portion of the I-5 will be closed the weekend of the wedding. This is south of downtown Portland, so it shouldn’t affect driving directions from the hotel to the venue, but it may cause significant traffic to pile up. Please be aware and plan accordingly.

First Route

Follow S Harbor Dr onto SW Natio Pkway. Turn right onto the Morrison Bridge. Use the left lane to take the I-5 N/I-84 E slip road, then keep right toward Airport/Seattle/The Dalles (0.2 mi). From I-84 E, take exit 17 and merge onto I-205 S. Next, take exit 17 toward Foster Rd. Keep right to continue toward SE Foster Rd. After traveling a little over 3 miles on SE Foster Rd, turn left onto the restricted-usage road. The driveway can be hard to spot. From this direction, it will be just after a T intersection stop light where a low stone wall on your left opens to the venue's driveway. Keep left to drive down into the parking lot of Lakeside Gardens.

Second Route

Take&nbsp;S Harrison St&nbsp;to&nbsp;S Naito Pkwy/Pacific Hwy W and turn left. Keep right onto US-26 E across the Ross Island Bridge. The road will turn into SE Powell Blvd. Turn right onto SE Foster Rd. Take a slight right onto SE Couplet St and continue on to SE Woodstock Blvd until the road joins back up with SE Foster Rd. After traveling a little over 3 miles on SE Foster Rd, turn left onto the restricted-usage road. The driveway can be hard to spot. From this direction, it will be just after a T intersection stop light where a low stone wall on your left opens to the venue's driveway. Keep left to drive down into the parking lot of Lakeside Gardens.

Approach from other direction

Continue past the gas station at the three-way intersection. A stone wall will appear on your right. The stone wall will quickly slope downwards to the entrance of Lakeside Gardens. Keep left to drive down into the parking lot of Lakeside Gardens.
