How We Met
Our story began in May of 2021 when two of our good friends, Maycie Goodlander and Jack Fisk, introduced us at a barbecue for Jack’s birthday. One might say it was love at first sight when Jessica walked into the party, saw Derek, and proclaimed to her friends “dibs!”. This spark turned into a flame when Derek serenaded Jessica later that night with a truly embarrassing rendition of “The Anthem” by Good Charlotte at Terry’s Karaoke Bar. Derek is reserved and not one for the spotlight (not to mention a terrible singer), but he put his shyness aside and boldly took that stage because he knew he needed to do something to get this beautiful woman’s attention. Clearly something about that performance was spectacular because here we are today, a few years later, ready to commit to one another for the rest of our lives. It’s funny how the universe works. We had no knowledge of one another prior to that party. Neither one of us expected that day to be anything more than a fun time with friends. Yet here we are, two former strangers, deeply in love, who owe it all to a barbecue party and some dive bar karaoke (and our two awesome match-maker friends!).
Our Engagement
After two incredible years together, Jessica and Derek flew across the pond to visit England and Scotland. Jessica was over the moon excited for this adventure that was sure to be the trip of a lifetime. Derek shared that sentiment entirely, but he was also nervous because he knew he had a big moment ahead of him. After three fantastic and fun-filled days exploring England, it was time to pop the question. On day 4 we stopped at Bamburgh Castle along the northeastern coast of England. On the beach beside the castle, Derek got down on one knee and asked Jessica to marry him. If you didn’t already know, she said yes.
We would like to thank you all for your love and support. We couldn’t be more excited for our big day and we look forward to sharing it with all of you.
