The Ultimate Surprise!!

Written by Jessica: So, Peter and I had already known we were going to get married before we were even "formally" engaged. We had a date picked out, and had been looking very heavily at a specific venue.

In September, I had ruined Peter's originally planned proposal - which he wanted to go for a walk at "my trains" (Kenefick Park in Omaha) but I was off my ADHD meds and focused on getting to the Browns Backers bar for the football game. So, when we parked at the bar and Peter said, "I thought we were going to go for a walk at your trains" I knew I had ruined his proposal plans. But also, we had gone on a 10-day road trip through the Midwest in August - and Peter had the ring with him the WHOLE time without once making the move.

Well, I (Jessica) had made plans to go to Denver for Thanksgiving weekend and to go to the Monday Night Football game that week - which was the Browns at Broncos. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Peter had told me that we were going to do a tour of our proposed venue - the Daniels & Fisher Tower in Downtown Denver (aka the Clocktower), followed by a makeup birthday dinner at Rodizio, and then the Vegas Golden Knights v. Colorado Avalanche hockey game. Both Peter and my bestie Amanda told me I needed to have a nice shirt for dinner and that wearing my hockey jersey wasn't really "appropriate." So, Peter and I went to the 16th Street Mall in search of a really nice, classy shirt - which I found at Ross!! Afterwards, we went home to change and then went to the Clocktower for our tour.

When we got inside, there was a huge Coke spill on the floor of the lobby and the "tour guide" was absolutely horrified. I couldn't figure out why this girl was so nervous about a simple Coke spill. When we got to the 17th floor - the last floor the elevator goes to - I was able to hear the sound system playing the Ice Nine Kills version of Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love" and I thought "Well, that's super weird and ironic!" not knowing what was coming.

We took the stairs to the 18th floor - where the clock faces are the main attraction - and when we turned the corner I could see the "Marry Me" lighted letters, a trail of rose petals, and candles (all safe!) and nearly walked out due to the shock. Then Peter got down on that one knee and officially and formally asked if I would marry him. He was not surprised when I jokingly said "No" followed by an immediate "Yeah!" And the rest is history!
