Jessica and Devin met while attending graduate school at the Air Force Institute of Technology in Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

In September of 2019, Jessica decided to take down phone numbers of her classmates while in search of study partners. Devin, being the opportunist that he is, noticed, and immediately decided to add his name to the list though he was not the type for group studying.

Up until then Devin had only texted Jess about the math class they were taking, but as Halloween approached, Devin decided to take the risk and ask Jess what her plans for the holiday were. He invited her over to make cocktails and join him for the dinner he had prepared.

In March of 2020, COVID stuck and Dayton, Ohio was closed down. Finding new ways to entertain themselves, whether it be jumping in on the 10th hole of the golf course Jess lived on or pushing the furniture in the living room aside to dance, Dev and Jess's connection continued to grow.

After graduating from AFIT, Jess moved to Chantilly, VA and Devin to Los Angeles, CA. While it was difficult to be separated by the entire country, Dev and Jess would again find new ways to spend time "together". Be it going to the movies or making meals "together," through many red eyes and countless late nights on the phone, they'd find a way to survive two years of long distance.

In June of 2023, Devin and Jessica were finally able to reunite. After driving from Los Angeles to Bar Harbor, Maine in only two-and-a-half days Devin asked Jessica to marry him at a "surprise" picnic in Acadia National Park (Jess had figured it out before they'd even left the state of Virginia). Jessica gladly said yes and the #soontobesaunders have been living and loving life ever since.
