It all started in a Theatre Class at Southwest Community College. We met and started getting to know each other as friends for almost two years. We spent a lot of time together, however we were not ready to enter into a relationship just yet.
In 2017 we graduated and for the first time said "I love you" before going our separate ways for almost two months without speaking to one another.
What followed was about three years of inconsistence phone calls and get togethers every couple of months. Until 2020 when we reconnected and spent the entire year having Zoom Bible studies.
In 2021 we began reconnecting more in person as friends. We would discuss everything under the sun from Bible, children, finances, etc. (We have always said we did things a little backwards). We had our wedding, honeymoon and a babysitter for future children all planned out before ever dating.
November 22nd 2021, we decided to go to the Orpheum together in Memphis to see the Lion King. We insisted to everyone that this was NOT a date. But if we are being honest... It was technically a date.
Fast forward to June of 2022, I was out of town in Colorado for a week long conference and I got a phone call in which he said "Do you think we should try dating?". This decision was made with a lot of prayer and counseling. On June 21st 2022 we officially started dating and had our (official) first date on July 14th in Nashville.
During our first year of dating we rediscussed everything we had talked about in years past, we started attending the same church and reconnecting through Bible studies with Bro. Hall (our officiant!). After that year, Alex was ready to ask the question.
In November of 2023 he had the ring, ready to propose on Christmas day. Unfortunately I had asked him to not propose on any major holidays and with all the family craziness going on, he decided to wait.
January 25th 2024. I thought it was just another ordinary day, we were running errands and we just HAD to go meet his friend at Southwest where we first met to pick something up. I did everything I could to try to avoid having to go (ignorance is bliss right?). But after much convincing and insisting on his part we made it to the school.
As we were "waiting" for his friend (Not), we started walking around the school down memory lane. I will admit I was later told that I almost ruined the surprise a couple of times by trying to wander off. We finally made it to the gazebos where we spent most of our time and he knelt down and asked me to marry him.
Our love story has been quite the journey but it has resulted in a beautiful happily ever after (we won't say ending because we know this is just the beginning of a new chapter for us). We cannot wait for July 6th to arrive so that we can start spending the rest of our lives together.
