Our Story

Here is a glimpse into how we met.

It was the evening of September 6th, 2014. I was living in Emporia at this time and a regular patron of The Noose. S.C., the owner, had decided to give karaoke a go and hired Mike, aka Noisy Waters, to facilitate.

I love to sing, but I’m so nervous to sing in front of other people. If I can’t sing a song perfectly, I don’t want anyone to hear me try! But this night, I decided to give it a try!

After a few drinks and some liquid courage courtesy of Fireball, I made my way up to Mike to turn in a song. I wanted to sing “Summer Nights” from Grease, so I asked him if he would sing it with me. His response was, “sure, but it has to be the dirty version”. I looked at him and laughed awkwardly and agreed. I had no idea that there was a dirty version of the song so I thought he was just kidding! But I was about to find out that he wasn’t joking at all!

I went back to my seat and nervously awaited my turn to sing. When he finally called my name, I wasn’t ready at all and so incredibly nervous.

The song starts playing, he sings the first line, and I realize at that moment he wasn’t kidding. My face turned beat read and I sang the entire song. I was in shock the entire time we were singing and the crowd was roaring with laughter!

Unfortunately, I don’t remember much after that. But I do remember following him to his car when he was loading up and making a fool of myself by my awkward attempts at flirting and I actually kissed him. That is so out of character, but the moment I saw him walk in the door that night to start the show, I was taken by him.

The next day, we met a Bruff’s and had our first date and followed that up with a few drinks at The Noose.

Here we are, 10 years later, getting married. Something neither of us ever imagined would happen.
