Jessica's POV

Colin and I first met my senior year in high school while on the swim team and would hang out together before class. We quickly became close friends and I asked Colin to the girls choice dance in December of that year. Shortly after the dance, on February 8th, 2016, Colin asked me out and we started dating!

That fall, I started college at UT Permian Basin in Odessa while Colin finished his senior year of high school back in Tyler. It was hard for us to only be able to see each other a couple times that year. In 2017 though, Colin started college at Texas Tech, so we were able to visit each other more often!

In the spring of 2020, Colin transferred to Midland College and we were finally living in the same town again! Over the course of the next couple years, we talked a few times about getting married eventually, and thought it would be best when we both got done with school. It seemed so far off! The past year or so, Colin would tell me he had the proposal all planned out, but never let any detail slip. I think he would try to throw me off by telling me some outlandish crazy plans. That is why I was completely stunned when he did propose!

I had my senior cello recital in November of 2021. I had been planning and practicing for it for about 6 months, Colin had also been planning for about that long to propose too. He surprised me at the very end of the recital, when I came out to bow after the last song he got up and knelt down the only thing I could think was 'oh my gosh it's actually happening!' I was completely surprised as it was an amazing way to end my final recital as a student. Colin has always listened and encouraged me through my music career. He would sit and listen while I practiced through high school to now. I even catch him humming music that I've practiced or played in a concert. Colin helped me make my decision to switch to being a music major over the course of several video call while he still lived in Lubbock. I am incredibly happy and lucky to be with such an amazing person and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him.
