Jess and I always thought that we knew who the perfect person for us was. We had this image of what that perfect person looked like. How they were going to treat us, how we were going to love and fix them. We entered these relationships with open hearts and open minds, and we left them with broken hearts and shattered dreams.


We didn't find each other early in life. We had to go through a lot of heartbreak to realize that what we thought was a perfect image of the perfect person never existed. If we remained in the driver's seat, we would always choose the wrong person.


We stopped looking. We did not give up, but we both knew that God had bigger plans for our lives. Jess and I crossed paths a few times over a year, but one cold day, everything changed with a hug. That day, we became the perfect image of what each other was looking for. The night was coming to an end, and I stood in line to give Jess a hug good night. When we hugged, it was the best hug I have ever felt. I felt safe, I felt vulnerable, I felt at peace, and I felt at home. So, when the hug was over, I got back in line for another hug. We both went home that night knowing something was different, that there was something special in each other. A few days went by, and Jess made the first move. Since that day, we have praised God daily for each other and the time we have together. God is now in the driver's seat.
