Jessie downloaded the dating app Hinge as a joke. Her and her girlfriends would laugh at the lack of available men in Wilmington... until Michael's profile popped up. Yes, he may have had a picture holding a fish (she forgave him), but he was also a total TEN compared to other guys on the app.
Michael used the Hinge app as you are supposed to and went on a couple of dates with other girls before Jessie. However, when he came across Jessie's profile (well, maybe Gunner's profile with a hint of Jessie in the pictures), he was hooked.
Their first date wasn't for another few weeks because Jessie was out of town, but over those few weeks until then, they texted each other all day, every day. Learning so many things about each other but mostly, how much they had in common and how in the world had they not met each other yet? They were from neighboring hometowns, their uncles know each other, Michael's roommate worked with Jessie, and the list goes on.
After their first date at Lighthouse and Poe's Tavern in Wrightsville Beach, they met each other's dogs, and the rest is history.
Fast forward to… October 12, 2024 - best. day. ever.
As most of you know, 2024 was a YEAR. Unfortunately, it was filled with more heartbreak than happiness. In March, we unexpectedly lost Michael’s mom and six months later, we lost Jessie’s dad. But, there was some goodness in there somewhere.
October 12, 2024 was set as our “early” date because Jessie’s dad wanted to be sure he could be here to walk her down the aisle. Turns out, that date wasn’t early enough. Her dad passed away in September, however we decided to keep the October date and honor him by getting married at his favorite place: his home. Yes, there were more dogs as guests than humans, but we know her dad was right there with her mom walking with her every step, as well as Michael’s mom kissing him on the cheek and telling him she loves him. And somehow, that made it okay.
We want to thank each and every one of you for being there for us through those difficult times. We felt you. We felt every hug, every thought, every bit of love that you showed us. And we are so incredibly excited to celebrate with you all in April.
