Ten years ago, Jarrah and Jhansi met through mutual friends and bonded over their shared appreciation of unusual words. Little to Jarrah's knowledge, Jhansi had already began to plot how she would woo him. After “casually” getting herself invited to Jarrah's flat warming, Jhansi blindly (literally not wearing her glasses) blurted out "wow, he's SO cute", while unknowingly staring right through an onlooking Jarrah. He thought there was absolutely no way that she was talking about him but decided to shoot his shot anyway. So began the fledgling text exchanges, which turned into passing notes in lectures, and, eventually, picnics in the park, disastrous baking efforts, and Jarrah’s involuntary induction into the world of cinematic horror. They met each other’s families, and started to build their life together.

After nine years, way too much study, and a near apocalyptic global pandemic, Jarrah and Jhansi finally had the chance to travel overseas to the big US of A. With the pressure mounting on all fronts, Jarrah saw this as the perfect opportunity to pop the question. Sneaking all over Auckland to organise a ring in the months before their trip, Jarrah had somehow pulled everything together for the perfect engagement plan. The ring was prepared, the location scouted, and the speech rehearsed. After arriving safely in Chicago, everything was falling into place, that was, until they encountered a wall of metal detectors at the gates of Millennium Park. Having walked another 20 minutes past the backup location, and the backup backup location, they eventually found a quiet corner in Coronation Park, where Jarrah got down on one knee and Jhansi said “YES” [translation: about time].
