Cory and Jill met at the bar Cory used to work at, Miller’s. One spring week night, Cory was there with some friends while he wasn’t working. Jill was also there with a friend grabbing drinks. While sitting outside, Cory walked past Jill and she immediately recognized him but wasn’t sure what from. She went through the rolodex in her brain but couldn’t figure out how she knew him. He was walking inside and out of panic she wouldn’t see him again she yelled, “HEY!” to get his attention. The following conversation went as so:
Jill: Hi, um, how do I know you?
Cory:….Um I don’t know?
Jill: Do you know me? Do I look familiar?
Cory: Sure?
Jill: Well, what do you do?
Cory: I work here.
Jill: THAT’S IT! You’re not wearing the shirt or behind the bar so I couldn’t figure it out out of context.
After Jill seamlessly broke the ice, they spent the rest of the night chatting and getting to know one another. Jill had allergies at the time and used this as an opportunity to name drop her last name to explain that her Dad owns the garden center, and that’s why she sounded like death ( but also in hopes Cory may find her online later). It worked like a charm, and by the end of the night Cory had sent Jill a friend request.
Cory proposed to Jill during sunset on Tybee Island in Savannah, Georgia. Cory and Jill planned a trip to Savannah to celebrate their 5 year anniversary. With Jill being away at school on and off, this was the first vacation they took just the two of them. In Type A fashion, Jill had most of the trip planned out. Cory’s one request was that we “check out Tybee Island”. They spent the day exploring the city of Savannah before heading to Tybee Island for sunset. They grabbed drinks on the pier and started walking down the beach. Jill had a sneaking suspicion a proposal was coming, so she anxiously asked, “Where are we going”? Cory, trying to play it cool responded, “Let’s just walk down around the curve so we can see the sunset better”. They continued walking for some time, and Jill having absolutely zero chill or ability to engage in small talk asks again, “Where exactly are we going?! We’ve been walking for a while and you just keep saying, ‘Just a little further’ Is there an actual end point here”?! Cory lets out a defeated sigh and says, “fine, come here”! He then got on one knee and asked Jill to marry him. Jill’s response to this was, “Get the f*** out of here! Of course I will”! They spent the rest of vacation celebrating their engagement and their love for one another.
