Scott & Jillian met in September 2021 when Scott traveled to Humboldt, Saskatchewan for his friend's wedding. Being the only two single people attending the wedding, Jillian quickly caught Scott's eye. After helping each other move one of the head tables in preparation for the dance, they got chatting. Scott enjoyed Jill's company so much, he stayed well within reach for the remainder of the evening, hoping to catch a dance with this mysterious new crush of his. He didn't have to wait long before Jillian approached him with a request to two-step, a popular Western Canadian dance style. Of course he accepted, but he was not about to impress Jillian with his dance moves!
Jillian left a strong impression on Scott, so upon returning to Nova Scotia, Scott told Jillian that he'd like to continue chatting with her. She was hesitant at first, but after some thought, she decided she'd like to get to know Scott a little better too. So, over the course of a year, they traveled across the country several times to see each other and get to know each other better.
After this first year of getting to know each other better, they prayed a novena - a nine-day prayer to a Saint asking for a special intention - for whether or not they should enter into a dating relationship with each other. After nine days of proper prayer and discernment, they each discussed their own experience during the novena. It turned out that they actually had a very similar experience without either one knowing about it! So, from that, they felt it was God's will that they enter into a dating relationship.
It wasn't uncommon for Jillian and Scott to meet on weekends for brunch. Often times, this would be at either one of their houses and they would make what Scott calls a "scoff" and what Jill calls a "hash".
On June 29th, 2024, Scott and Jillian planned to have brunch in President Murray Park in Saskatoon, right across the road from Jillian's house. While they were eating brunch, Jillian was unusually doing all the talking while Scott was unusually silent as a mouse. Because of this, along with the fact that Scott told Jillian about a hundred times not to make any plans for Saturday, Jillian grew quite suspicious.
After they finished eating, Scott presented Jillian with a gift. Jillian unwrapped it to reveal a photo book, containing photos of Scott and Jillian throughout their dating relationship. Jillian was flipping through a lot faster than Scott had anticipated, so he was getting ready for the big question. As Jillian approached the end of the photo book, the second last page contained three photos of Jillian trying on engagement rings, while the last page contained the first picture they ever took together on the night they met, with the words "Let's grow old together." Scott got down on one knee, verbally poured out his love to Jillian, and asked if she would marry him. What happened next got Scott a little concerned, as Jillian took the ring box, closed it, and placed it on the picnic table! The next words that came out of Jillian's mouth were, "Of course," as she gave Scott a big hug! Scott breathed a sigh of relief, and asked if he could put the ring on her finger. Flustered, they both laughed, as Jillian forgot the part where Scott got to put the engagement ring on her finger!
They spent the rest of the day in great joy, keeping the big news to themselves for the day, attending Mass and going out for supper in Saskatoon.
