Our story began in September 2016 in Iowa City, Iowa, doing one of our favorite things – cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones. We spent the night so focused on getting to know each other that neither of us even realized the Cyclones were getting killed by the Hawkeyes. Zoe was immediately drawn to JJ’s ability to become friends with any stranger, thoughtfulness, and his infectious smile and chuckle.

Back in Ames, we quickly became friends, going to Gerdin Hall to do homework together, where JJ quickly learned that Zoe’s brains matched her beauty. We spent many hours going on walks around campus and working on accomplishing our goal of trying every pizza at Fong’s.

By December 2016, we knew we wanted to be more than friends and made it “official” right before the holidays. Since December 2016, we have merged our separate lives into one that we truly are so grateful for. From hanging out with friends and family, cheering on our favorite sports teams, weekly Friday night dinner dates, to walking Ace – we think everything in life is more fun together.

To solidify getting to do life together forever, JJ proposed in Cozumel, Mexico on March 10, 2023.
