Our Love Story

We both lived on campus at Curry College and our paths crossed quite a few times, but it wasn’t until senior year when we started dating. However, sophomore and junior year, Matt notoriously pursued Joanna through what is called “Sliding into the DM’s”. He was adamant.  The summer before senior year, Matt and Joanna “swiped right”. At that point in our college lives, we had many mutual friends but never really connected. It was about 30 minutes after Joanna swiped on Matt that he got her phone number from a friend and texted her directly. He wasted no time. We spent most of our time senior together. It wasn’t long into dating that Matt gave Joanna a promise ring, promising to marry her one day. At the time, some of her college friends laughed that it would never last, but we knew otherwise.   We went to formal, supported each other at award ceremonies, and walked at graduation together. Soon after graduation, we moved in together and struggled as recent graduates to “find our way” in the world. We ate pizza on the floor of our apartment the first night we moved in because we didn’t have anything to our name. Matt quickly learned that sports signs are not a form of décor and that they have a “time and a place” according to Joanna.   The next few years went something like this: We got our first adult jobs. We quit our first adult jobs. We bought our first couch. That couch quickly lost its charm. We learned that quality is better than quantity.  We got new jobs. Joanna got fired (whoops). We got a dog, Jenny. We figured out what we want to do with our careers. Joanna bought her first car. We got a new apartment. Matt went to graduate school to obtain his Masters of Education.  After a year, our rent skyrocketed. We debated. Matt graduated and landed a new job. We bought a house site unseen. We moved to Florida.  ---   On December 23rd 2022, we were going for a walk to see some holiday lights (or so Joanna thought). That walk turned into the most beautiful and private proposal.   We’ve been through a lot together and if there’s any piece of advice we can offer to other lovers, it’s that friendship is the most important thing in any relationship. The first person we go to is each other whenever we have good news, bad news, or want to share how our morning coffee was. We’re each other’s confidant, cheerleader, and backbone. We hope that everyone gets to experience a love like ours one day. We are so excited to be able to share our special day with you.   Thank you for always rooting for us.    Love, Matt & Jo
