The Bride would come to Fort Warden with her family every year to camp in the forest or the ocean campsites. The family would hike throughout the old military buildings and play on the beach. Coming to Fort Worden every year was one of the reasons the mother and father of the bride fell in love with Port Townsend, WA and ultimately decided to make a home there.
Fort Worden Description
Nestled in the seaport community of Port Townsend, Washington, Fort Worden is a destination you’ll want to return to again and again. Originally designed as a military base to protect Puget Sound, Fort Worden transformed into an iconic and cherished state park. But it was destined to become much more. Due to its unique and eclectic attributes, the Fort has evolved into a gathering place for events, activities, conferences, weddings and more. As diverse as these experiences may be, there is a common thread – the joy of making meaningful connections in a magnificent natural setting.
If you need something to do on Saturday, this is a perfect place to hike and explore the old military base.
Ryan and Jocelyn have been members at the Port Townsend Winery for about a year. When they come to town, they enjoy a tasting or glass of wine with the Bride's parents. When Ryan's parents, sister and brother-in-law came to town, they enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio. The venue is dog friendly. The couple recommends a nice glass of the Winery's reserve Cabernet.
Winery Description
Port Townsend Vineyards’ winery is located near the city’s southern entry. Featuring a new co-op production facility to support sustainable winemaking, our winery greets visitors entering Port Townsend by road and highlights the care put into the wine. All of the grapes grown locally as well as those sourced from top regional vineyards are cared for in this brand new wine production facility.
Built as a custom-crush facility, this new building houses modern winemaking equipment and ample space for barrel storage. It was designed to ensure the hand-harvested grapes could be crushed and fermented with minimal intervention using environmentally-efficient water and energy practices.
The Winery is located at the southern entry into Port Townsend off of West Sims Way and includes a unique tasting room experience.
Port Townsend Vineyards has two distinct tasting rooms. The casually elegant Winery Tasting Room at the entrance to town hosts guests in a tasting room that reflects the old-world charm of the 140-year-old wood beams, artfully blended with modern stainless steel and glass. An adjacent event pavilion and outdoor patio provide upscale venues for events, dinner parties and local music.
Ryan and Jocelyn have been to this brewery many times! They are also dog friendly and even named Coda dog of the month when she was just 8 weeks old. Jocelyn also celebrated her 30th birthday in the beer garden while listening to a local Port Townsend band. All of the beers are great, but they especially recommend the IPA's.
Brewery Description:
When we opened the doors in 1997 we offered only two beers to customers, the Port Townsend Pale Ale and The Port Townsend Brown Porter. Since that time we have grown to brew over 10 ales. With the help of brewing consultant Vince Cottone (Sound Brewing Systems Inc.), Master of Malting and Brewing Sciences, Jim Pryor (Victoria B.C., Canada), professional brewers, Bill Pearson and Barry Ladell the brewery got off the ground. Without them we would not be here today!
In 2003 we went from bottling just two of our beers to all 10. We replaced our original 7 Bbl system with a new 15 Bbl system, we bought four more conditioning tanks, and expanded our beer garden to include a bandstand, lots more seating and outdoor heating.
We have also evolved into being major sponsors for many events in Port Townsend. The largest event; The Wooden Boat Festival is held the 2nd weekend in September and provides one of the largest shows of wooden boats in the country. Centrum Arts - Blues Festival held in August, The Port Townsend Film Festival in September and The Kinetic Skulpture Race in October. (See our Events Page for more details.)
Please join us at the brewery in our cozy tasting room for a few pints and a few laughs, and in the summertime enjoy many wonderful concerts in the beer garden.
Ryan loves the unique flavors of the beer at Propolis! The Couple loves the setting and would recommend this location if you are interested in trying a new unique beer you probably won't find anywhere else!
Brewery Description
Propolis was established in June of 2012 with the sole intent to produce high-quality handcrafted herbal ales inspired by Old World tradition, local resources and the rhythms of nature. Our ales are brewed with various wild-crafted herbs and are seasonally based. Many of our Ales blend several styles and are hard to classify by those that subscribe to the standards. We are primarily inspired by the farmhouse tradition of France and Belgium, as well as Old World Ales that no longer exist. We are artists and scientists at heart and we aspire to challenge the norm.
Ryan and Jocelyn love the Pourhouse! The outdoor area right on the beach is gorgeous and provides a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy any of the many beers they have on tap. On Friday and Saturday nights they also have live music. The outdoor space has firepits and you can bring your own food in to enjoy.
Pourhouse Description
Located on the beach at the mouth of Port Townsend Bay, we offer a relaxed environment to enjoy a delicious craft beer and spectacular views. Our spacious beer garden, "The Impound Lot”, is a great place to have a picnic, listen to live music on our outdoor stage, play ping pong, or a game of Pétanque. Inside you can settle in for a conversation, a beer flight or a board game. We have 12 beers and two ciders rotating on draft, an extensive wine by the glass list, and over 200 bottles and cans to go or for enjoying here. If you’re hungry, try our bar snack menu with the option to bring in food from neighboring restaurants. Pourhouse is a 21 and over establishment.
Ryan and Jocelyn have loved going golfing over the years! If you are looking for something to do on Saturday before the wedding in the evening, make sure to make your tee time early and head out for a round of golf!
Ryan and Jocelyn went to this coffee shop on their first ever trip to Port Townsend together. The Bride's parents frequently buy their coffee here and enjoy a latte or americano while sitting by the water. The outdoor area is dog friendly! The Bride recommends the chai latte.
