This is a really awesome museum and gives great history of Michigan. Some of the museum is inside and some of it is outside, so it is a great summer activity!

The Dream Cruise in Michigan, officially known as the Woodward Dream Cruise, is the world’s largest one-day automotive event. It takes place annually on Woodward Avenue, primarily in Metro Detroit, and celebrates classic car culture with over 40,000 classic and custom vehicles and more than 1 million spectators.

Where: Stretches for 16 miles along Woodward Avenue from Ferndale to Pontiac.

What: Features vintage cars, hot rods, muscle cars, and cruisers driving up and down Woodward all day.

Vibe: It’s part parade, part car show, and part massive community gathering—complete with live music, food vendors, and retro nostalgia.

It started in 1995 as a small fundraiser and has since become an international attraction for car lovers.

Somerset Collection

If you forgot anything (I.e. clothing, shoes, belt, bra, jacket, etc.), this mall has just about every store you could think of.

Clarkston is surrounded by beautiful lakes—perfect if you’re looking to relax outdoors during the wedding weekend. Here are a few great spots with public beaches:

Deer Lake Beach (Clarkston)

Right in town, this sandy beach offers swimming and lifeguards during summer hours. A small entry fee applies.

Independence Oaks County Park

Just minutes away, this large park features a beach, trails, boat rentals, and picnic areas—great for a nature break.

Bay Court Park

A quiet spot on Greens Lake with a small beach, perfect for a peaceful afternoon. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Dodge #4 State Park (Cass Lake, nearby)

A state park with a sandy beach and lake access, ideal for swimming, fishing, and boating.

Holland State Park - Macatawa Campground

2215 Ottawa Beach Rd, Holland, MI 49424, USA
(616) 399-9390

If you have the time or ANY interest in turning our wedding into a stop on a family vacation, I cannot recommend seeing the big lake enough! Any beach town along the the west side of the state would be beautiful, but please reach out to me (Jocelyn) if you need suggestions!

I have family that live in Holland, MI and it is the cutest town, with so many sweet restaurants, shops, and nice beach access!

It will take 3 (ish) hours to get over there, so you will need a car.

I personally have not been to the thumb (Port Austin, Bad Axe, etc) but I know everyone raves about it! This part of the state will take around 2.5 hours to get to.
