Our Story

Our Story

Welcome everyone!

My name is Joe Mischler, the lucky man that is going to marry Kelly Fessler. I will try to keep this love story light-hearted, factually based, and brief. Please refrain from asking Kelly to confirm any of these facts or details as she is going to lie and say that I am wrong (I'm not).

Our story begins on February 14th, 2018 (Valentine's Day). I was a Senior at Prep and Kelly was a Junior at Villa. It was a big day. I had bought flowers and gathered up the courage to go to the Fessler's house to ask Kelly to be my girlfriend. I was feeling calm, cool, and collected... until I got to her house and she wasn't answering my phone calls. After a few attempts, I went to the front door and knocked. Mr. John Fessler (Kelly's Dad) came to the door and was surprised to see me standing there with flowers. I assured him they were not for him, but that I was there to talk to Kelly. He responded, "She just got in the shower, but come on in! Providence and Villanova are playing and it's a close game." So, now I was somehow inside watching the Friars and Wildcats. About a half hour went by, and although I love spending time with Mr. Fessler as much as the next guy, I was getting a bit impatient. Mrs. Amy Fessler (Kelly's Mom) was peaking her head in from time to time, probably thinking, "Why on earth is this boy in my kitchen?" To add to this event (that was supposed to have a romantic element to it) Kelly had zero clue I was in her house. She finally came downstairs, but she was in her Villa pajamas and had a towel wrapped around her hair. She was surprised to say the least. But after what had just transpired, I panicked and failed to ask her the question that the whole trip was about. I was about half way to my car when Kelly stopped me and said, "Are you going to ask me out or what?" This was not by any means how I pictured this moment going in my head (HER asking ME out!?!). Obviously I said yes.

A few months went by and life was at an all time high. However, we had a major problem - I had to leave for college. Without any hesitation, we decided that we wanted to stay together and date long distance. We would be lying if we said that long distance was easy, but what we can say is that it strengthened our relationship more than we could have ever imagined. God works in mysterious ways, and I think He knew that this would be a positive thing for us and our relationship. Four years later, Kelly and I both graduated from college with our undergraduate degrees in the same year (Kelly graduated in three years... talk about beauty AND brains!), and Kelly moved to Pittsburgh for her job. FINALLY BACK IN THE SAME CITY! The next year or so only confirmed what I already knew. I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Kelly. She had won my family's heart from the moment they met her, especially my Mom and Dad, Michael and Mary Mischler. When I told them I was going to ask Kelly to marry me, they couldn't control their excitement and emphasized that she would be a perfect addition to our family.

Jumping forward to July 1, 2023. At this point in time, we had been together for about five and a half years. From prior experiences in high school (Kelly asking me out), I knew that if Kelly waited around too long she was going to get impatient and ask me to marry her. I couldn't let this happen again. I needed to act and act fast!! All joking aside, I asked Kelly to marry me and she said yes! It will be a day we remember forever. Our story is almost six years old now. This short write-up will never be able to capture the full story of Kelly and me. Nothing in life can capture the big and small moments that make life so special. It has been the most remarkable six years of my life. I cannot wait to see what our future holds and I look forward to one day writing about "Our Story" 60 years from now with the tremendous sense of pride and happiness I feel right now. Kelly Marie Fessler, I love you and cannot wait to call you my wife. Cheers to the next chapters in our story!

Next up is July 6th, 2024!!! We cannot wait to celebrate with you all! Until then, we love you all. God Bless.
