Joe and Kit met through a co-worker of Joe's, who also happened to be Kit's roommate. They went on their first date in February 2016 at a bowling alley and instantly hit it off! Along the way, they met each other's families and friends. Everyone could see how much they truly loved each other. Joe and Kit got to celebrate many things, such as Kit running her first Indy Mini Marathon, Joe experiencing his first race weekend in Speedway, moving in together, attending their first Jimmy Buffett concert, Kit turning 21, and so much more.

Joe and Kit took some time apart, but they eventually found their way back to each other. They went on their second first date to a drive-in movie theater in October 2020 (Halloween, to be exact). After a few more dates, it was pretty evident that the two were ready to start fresh. They were taking their second chance and both were thrilled about it. Throughout the years, they both moved into new apartments, got new jobs, went on vacations, and fell more in love each day. In 2023, they decided to finally move into an apartment together. They created a home full of love, laughter, and happy memories. In the summer of 2024, Joe suggested they go on a vacation. The two hadn't been on a vacation alone together in a few years. While looking at potential vacation spots, Kit suggested French Lick, Indiana. This was a place Kit used to visit with her family when she was a child. In fact, it's where Kit has her favorite memory of her dad, who had passed away when she was nine years old. This sparked something in Joe, and he made an important decision that would impact them both. <3

Kit and Joe decided to go on a weekend getaway to French Lick, Indiana. They stayed at the beautiful and historic French Lick Springs Hotel. After checking in, the two walked around, and Kit showed Joe all the things she remembered about the hotel and the surrounding area. Joe loved hearing all of Kit's stories. In typical fashion, Kit tried to make a plan, but Joe just wanted to go with the flow. The first night, Kit gave in. They went to dinner, lost money at the casino, and walked around some more. When Kit tried to make a plan for the next day, Joe changed the subject to, "I am so excited to golf tomorrow." It was driving Kit absolutely crazy. The next morning, Joe was golfing at the Donald Ross Course, and Kit was getting a massage. While Kit was getting her massage, she had a weird feeling that Joe might propose but didn't want to get her hopes up (they had only looked at rings a few months prior). That evening, they decided to go to dinner at a steakhouse across the street. After dinner, they decided to go to the hotel and have ice cream while sitting on the rocking chairs on the hotel's porch. Sitting on the rocking chairs and having ice cream at that exact location was Kit's favorite memory with her dad. After finishing the ice cream, Joe ran upstairs to "grab some drinks" for them to have outside. After some small talk, he finally worked up the courage to ask Kit to marry him. They immediately called family and friends to share the good news!
