We've been dreaming and scheming about having a wedding celebration where everyone can hang with friends and family from afar, eat, drink and let loose a little!!! We hope you are able to join us for the entire weekend of June 27th-29th at the Sou'Wester! We certainly can't wait!

Our Wedding

Ashley and Joel first met as dolphins around 3000 B.C. off the coast of modern day Belize. It was an adventurous, playful and creative relationship from the very beginning. Fast forward to late 2012 when they met again, this time as bipeds working in a Greek restaurant. They worked well together (and there may have been some sparks beyond their obvious platonic chemistry) but they didn’t hang out much outside of work until 2015. Both newly single at this point, they started hanging out on their days off. A lot. Initially bonding over a shared passion for travel and photography, they would take many day trips out of the city with their Polaroid cameras. Joel was impressed with Ashley’s eye for composition and Ashley was impressed with Joel’s jump kicks. Together they captured many action shots. And then there was the food. They never missed an opportunity to try a new restaurant but there were also many meals enjoyed at Ashley’s apartment where Joel found out about her extraordinary culinary talent. The way to a boy’s heart indeed. Around this time Ashley’s cousin Victoria was getting married. On Ashley’s birthday there was a big party for her at a local bar. Victoria took the opportunity to corner Joel and demand answers to the big question: Are you serious about Ashley? If you’re going to come to my wedding I need to know what’s going on with you guys! Having two older sisters, Joel wasn’t easily intimidated. On the contrary he was impressed with her protective, sisterly love for Ashley. He answered the question directly: I think we’re dating! Ashley is amazing. I really like her. He must have passed the examination because he was allowed to attend the wedding. Ashley and Joel would use that night to mark the anniversary of their ‘official’ romantic relationship. Shortly thereafter on mother’s day, Ashley would win over Joel’s whole family by doing yard work for mom all the while looking way too cute to be weeding flower beds. Over the next ten years they would go on many trips together. New York City (twice!), Mexico, Belize (again!?) and Canada. Birthday trips to Palm Springs and an incredible adventure across Europe, all the while continuing to collaborate on countless ridiculous photo shoots and music videos. They became cat parents to their exotic fur-princess Ponytail in 2019. During the pandemic they had no problem being stuck with each other all day. In fact they learned that there was yet another thing that they loved to do together: garden. They had an undeniable compatibility and so many complimentary talents. Joel was supportive of Ashley’s creative pursuits in ceramics, helping with markets and rides to and from the studio. Ashley would patiently endure Joel’s long rehearsals and recording sessions at their house, often making a wonderful meal for everyone afterwards. Hosting parties and designing their home space became a favorite way of being creative together. More friends became even more mutual. The year was 2024. Joel knew enough to know he had it good. Really good. It seemed like the right time to make it official. But first he needed to talk to her dad. So, on the morning of Christmas Eve, he called up Curtis to tell him what was on his mind. Curtis and his wife Tina were elated and so proud they would brag to their friends about the courteous stand-up guy that wanted to marry their daughter. Later that morning Joel and Ashley went on a walk through a favorite part of their Ravenna neighborhood. When they got halfway across the Ravenna Park Bridge, just a couple blocks from where they met, Joel stopped to tie his shoe. When Ashley turned around he had a ring out. She said yes.

Several of the accommodations have queen, twin or full combo beds. Booking will be first come, first serve so we recommend not waiting to reserve your spot! Our wedding will have access to the entire property and all of its amenities. You are able to modify your reservation up to 72 hours before June 27th, as Sou'wester will not charge your card until check in.

Alex and Ash met working at Vios Cafe ( Third Place ) many moons ago. What started as a weekly pool hang with coworkers, affectionately called the "Pool Ghouls" has blossomed into a hilarious, supportive, inspiring friendship!
