Helen and John met while working for the game show "Beat Shazam" in an office around two blocks away from their future wedding venue. John and Helen had lunch together on the first two days of work, and then Helen decided she wanted to try and meet other coworkers and had a lunch without John. Helen was bored out of her mind and found that she couldn't stop thinking about that handsome guy she had been hanging out with and wished she was having lunch with him instead. The next week, John asked Helen out on a date - she said no, she didn't want to date a coworker. He asked another day, she said the same. Finally, he asked a third time, she said yes, and the two have been inseparable ever since.

In 2021, John and Helen flew to the East Coast so Helen could see where John grew up. While there, they stayed in a little bed and breakfast in Vermont, and it was there that John decided to propose to Helen. In the Autumn of 2023, John and Helen flew out to Connecticut with the plan to drive a car back to the West Coast for John's parents who had recently moved to be closer to their kids. Little did Helen know, John had more than just a road trip planned...while on the East Coast, John and Helen stayed with some friends in a cabin in the woods in Vermont. The last morning of that section of the trip, John proposed to Helen and she said yes! The rest of the road trip became a celebration of their engagement that they got to share with friends along the journey.
