John and Nina met back on a summer night in 2013 when their shared forgetfulness brought the unlikely pair together for the first time. While working at Camp Calumet, the two were walking in the same direction on a fateful August night.

John was retrieving his jacket that he left on a bench, and Nina had to get some medicine she had forgotten earlier that night. They were walking just a few yards apart when John stopped to see if Nina wanted to walk together and chat to pass the time. While they don’t remember what exactly was said during that conversation, it made enough of an impression on them to begin a friendship.

They crossed paths numerous times over the years, from camp visits to concerts, until they discovered that they were living just a few minutes apart in Brighton. Thus began their happily ever after.
