Flights

The Cancun International Airport is the closest airport. Get your passport ready, leave your flammables at home and hop on a flight to Cancun! Tulum is 90 minutes south of the airport.

Boston people: JetBlue is the only airline that has nonstop flights to/from Cancun. They're only doing direct flights on weekends!

Ground Transportation

•A private transfer. A private transfer will cost 180-300 USD round trip for up to 10 people. There are many transfer services online, but be sure to go through a reputable service! We recommend emailing Nancy at reservations@hiphoteltulum.com as they might be able to set a transfer up for you. USA transfers has a ton of good reviews on Trip Advisor. You can also book through the Cancun Airport website, which we have done in the past. If you are interested in taking a transfer with other people from our group, send us your arrival/departure info and we will connect you with others!

•Taxis are not available at the airport, however if you find yourself needing a taxi to get to the airport on the way home, there are plenty available in Tulum. We asked about pricing from one of our taxi drivers and he said it would run ~100 USD one way.

• Rental Car. We rented a car during our short trip to Tulum for 80 USD total. The drive to Tulum is very easy, so if you appreciate the freedom of having a car or want to visit some of the points of interest that are further away, you might want to consider renting! Regardless of which company you go with you will take a shuttle from the terminal to the car rental location. There you will fill out paperwork and document every scratch on the car (we had a beat up little compact) and be on your way!

If renting a car, please read these car rental tips. About half of what we paid was for Mexican Liability Insurance, which cannot be waived. They also put a hold on a credit card to cover potential damages to the car, but that hold was lifted as soon as we returned the car.

Driving Tips:

• Signs are in kilometers and Spanish, but we had no trouble even with our limited Spanish.

• Along the road to Tulum there will be a number of checkpoints with armed police. This is normal, just slow down and continue on through.

• There are also a lot of speed bumps (topes) on the way down. Just a fair warning, slow down for these because they are no joke.
