Our Story

Our story begins in Taiwan in the summer of 2023. We both decided to spend our summer overseas serving on a mission trip. Gabby caught feelings quickly. Jonah… not so much. Although we didn’t interact much, we both had great summers serving the Lord and sharing the gospel with our Taiwanese friends. We returned to the US and enjoyed the rest of our summers. Gabby decided to give up hope and move on after “making a move” (she texted him about a book once).

Our story begins in Taiwan in the summer of 2023. We both decided to spend our summer overseas serving on a mission trip. Gabby caught feelings quickly. Jonah… not so much. Although we didn’t interact much, we both had great summers serving the Lord and sharing the gospel with our Taiwanese friends. We returned to the US and enjoyed the rest of our summers. Gabby decided to give up hope and move on after “making a move” (she texted him about a book once).
Fast forward to the highly anticipated Iowa vs. Iowa State football game where some of the summer teamers decided to plan a reunion in Ames. After the game was over we had to do the notorious Salt Company stadium clean up. Jonah saw Gabby walking and cleaning up all alone like a little lost puppy. He decided to join her and make a little small talk. After clean up was over, Jonah left with a little crush on Gabby.

Fast forward to the highly anticipated Iowa vs. Iowa State football game where some of the summer teamers decided to plan a reunion in Ames. After the game was over we had to do the notorious Salt Company stadium clean up. Jonah saw Gabby walking and cleaning up all alone like a little lost puppy. He decided to join her and make a little small talk. After clean up was over, Jonah left with a little crush on Gabby.
Jonah and some friends came to visit Iowa City one weekend in November and Jonah decided to ask Gabby out on a “date!” (over the texting app we used in Taiwan) Gabby starts telling all her friends freaking out and asking them if they thought it was a date. They were all very protective and hesitant at the so called “date,” not a great first impression on Jonah’s part, he had some work to do.

Jonah and some friends came to visit Iowa City one weekend in November and Jonah decided to ask Gabby out on a “date!” (over the texting app we used in Taiwan) Gabby starts telling all her friends freaking out and asking them if they thought it was a date. They were all very protective and hesitant at the so called “date,” not a great first impression on Jonah’s part, he had some work to do.
The date went well and we continued to go on a few more dates over the next couple months. On January 4th, Jonah decided to make it official and ask her to be his girlfriend. The next day, we had a hard launch at the Salt Company Conference.

Throughout the late winter/early spring we made many trips to visit each other in Ames or Iowa City and many many late night facetime calls. Gabby ended up deciding to go back to Taiwan for the summer, so we enjoyed our last few dates together until July.

The summer felt like an eternity to Jonah but he kept busy by working for the city of Ames, going to his friend’s weddings, and playing lots of disc golf. Once Gabby got back, we shared a souvenir from Taiwan. (Gabby's first legal drink!)

The rest of the summer was filled with lots of time together, going to the lake, more weddings, and plenty of pickleball.

Gabby moved back to Iowa City to start her last year of school while Jonah stayed in Ames. We had to readjust back to weekend visits and facetime calls.

On December 18th, after Gabby’s last final exam, Jonah decided to make it officially official and put a ring on it. Jonah thought he was being sneaky, taking Gabby by surprise but she saw straight through his plans.

The Lord has been so good to us! From saving us from our sinful selves, to bringing a couple of college students (from rival colleges) across the Pacific Ocean to meet, start dating, get engaged, soon to be married! We can’t wait to continue to serve the Lord together for the rest of our lives! To Him be the glory!
