Rain lashed against the bookstore window, blurring the world outside. Evelyn, nose deep in a well-worn fantasy novel, barely registered the frantic scrambling at the door. It burst open, admitting a whirlwind of wind and a thoroughly soaked young man.He shook himself off, sending droplets flying, and sheepishly approached the counter. "Sorry about that," he mumbled, hair plastered to his forehead. His eyes, a startling blue, darted around the store before landing on Evelyn. They seemed to widen a fraction.Evelyn, usually shy, found herself blurting, "Here for refuge from the storm?"A smile, hesitant at first, then full-blown, lit up his face. "Exactly. And maybe a book recommendation? Unless you think I should just crawl into one and live there."For the next hour, they were lost in a world of their own making. He, Liam, a budding architect with a passion for hidden gems in literature. She, a baker with a secret love for dragons and forgotten lore. The rain continued its assault outside, but inside, the warmth of conversation filled the space.As the storm subsided, casting an orange glow on the horizon, Liam reluctantly glanced at his watch. "I should really be going."Evelyn felt a pang, a sudden fear of the quiet returning. "Maybe," she offered, "you could take that recommendation with you, with a slice of our new double-chocolate chip cookie?"Liam's smile returned, wider this time. "Even better." Their fingers brushed as he took the bag, sending a jolt through Evelyn. "This was..." he began, then seemed to struggle for words."Unexpected?" she finished, a nervous laugh escaping her lips."Perfect," he said, his voice low. At the door, he turned. "See you around, Evelyn?"She met his gaze, heart pounding a happy rhythm. "Definitely, Liam. See you around." As he disappeared into the twilight, a single word echoed in Evelyn's mind: Sunshine. Even on the rainiest day, he'd brought sunshine. And maybe, just maybe, there was a new chapter waiting to be written.
