We have a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Downtown Roanoke, close to lots of restaurants and shops, including the location where we will have our Friday evening welcome reception. You can book your rooms directly through the website provided here or you can call the hotel directly.
If you call, you can request a King bed room with a view facing outward if one is available. Otherwise you might get a room facing the upper level of the hotel's parking garage. Unfortunately, with the rooms we have at this rate, only King rooms have outward facing views. The Queen rooms all face inward. If you want, you can upgrade to a slightly more expensive Queen room that faces outward.
If you want to explore other options, there are other hotels or airbnbs in the area. We decided that the downtown Hampton provided the best combination of price, quality of rooms, and location, and we wanted to provide an option that could bring our guests as close together as possible for the weekend.
If you book lodging elsewhere, bear in mind that we will be arranging shuttle transportation for our guests to and from the wedding/reception that will leave from the downtown Hampton Inn & Suites.
Note: if you arrive before Friday, you can book the same rate; you just need to tell them it is for the Kennedy - Gross wedding.
Parking is $8/night. If you park, the hotel recommends going to the desk and telling them you want parking on your room ticket; they will give you a ticket you can scan as you go in and out so you don't get charged if you are in and out multiple times a day.
You can get to Roanoke by plane, train, or automobile.
The Roanoke train station is about a five minute walk from the Hampton Inn & Suites downtown. If you lives somewhere where the train is an option, we highly encourage going this route. It is the most ecologically friendly, is probably cheaper than flying, and you won't have to worry about parking while you are here. You can look at tickets at www.amtrak.com
If you drive, the hotel where we have room blocks provides parking for $8/day. There is more info on that above. There are also other parking garages in the downtown Roanoke area.
If you fly, you'll want to fly into the Roanoke airport and take an Uber or Lyft to wherever you are staying. If that won't work for you for any reason and you need transportation help, please let us know and we can help you arrange something. Other nearby airports include Lynchburg (LYH) (41.5 miles), Greensboro/High Point (GSO) (81 miles), Charlottesville (CHO) (101.8 miles) and Raleigh/Durham (RDU) (116.3 miles). I'd only recommend flying into these if you get a huge break on flight costs and you already planned on renting a car.
Renting a car should not be necessary. If you are staying in Downtown Roanoke, most things are walkable, including our Friday night welcome reception. We will be providing free transportation to and from the wedding that leaves from the general area of the Hampton Inn & Suites downtown.
