Our Story

Our story has been one of God’s grace, faithfulness, and love. In the short span of 2 years Zana and I, by God’s strength, have weathered deep sorrows, been filled with unimaginable joy, and been supported through unmerited favor. We thank all of you who have been a part of our story thus far as well as those who will join us as we embark upon this new chapter of our lives. In all things we give thanks and hope that our lives can bring joy and God’s love to you all!

Once upon a time at Community of Faith Bible Church…

Jonathan was late to church one sunny morning in April of 2018. When he walked in, all hopes of getting to his seat undetected were gone when he saw the most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on getting a drink of water. Zana, unbeknownst to Jonathan, had been instructed by her mother, the wonderful Lazette Scott-Bowens, to dress up that day so that she could introduce her to “someone” (not Jonathan). Praise God Jonathan got there first. Jonathan made up an excuse to get Zana’s number and invited her to lunch to talk about their “careers and interests”.

A few weeks later they had their first date. During that lunch, it’s safe to say that Jonathan and Zana were both pleasantly surprised by how similar their upbringings were, and as a result, they found themselves completely compatible on an intellectual and spiritual level. The summer of 2018 was a blur of good music, museum dates, and beach picnics filled with Jonathan misinterpreting art and Zana beating him in volleyball.

In November of that same year Zana’s father, George Bowens, was diagnosed with a serious form of cancer and began treatment immediately. Within a few months of George’s diagnosis, Jonathan and Zana decided to begin formally courting and to walk the journey of her father’s cancer together. Since then, God has shown His immense grace, healing, and protection over both the Kidd and Bowens’ households. God has sustained their relationship over the past two years through numerous valleys and has also brought it to miraculous heights. We praise God that He has placed His healing hand of mercy on George as he continues his treatments and is feeling stronger day by day!

Jonathan and Zana were engaged in early June of 2020 and are excited to celebrate their COVID-safe wedding in late July of this year. While they are saddened by the absence of many people who under regular circumstances would have been able to attend the wedding in-person, they rejoice that even more friends, family, and co-workers will be able to celebrate with them over their virtual wedding. They are also tremendously grateful that a small group of family and close friends will still be able to gather for an intimate ceremony. They are both especially looking forward to George, Lord willing, being able to walk Zana down the aisle and give her hand to Jonathan in marriage.
